SCHOOL AND PUBLIC EVENTS:THE MUSEUM WAS DEEPLY ENGAGED WITH PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS, INCLUDING THE TIMELY ON SITE OPERA PRODUCTION OF "WHAT LIES BENEATH" ABOARD WAVERTREE; ART AT THE BLUE LINE WITH VISUAL PROJECTIONS ON THE HISTORIC A.A. LOW BUILDING IN THE SCHERMERHORN ROW BLOCK; AND CITY OF WATER DAY, MOBILE VACCINE CLINICS, AND FRESH CARGO (CIDER, WOOL, HONEY, PUMPKINS) FROM THE SCHOONER APOLLONIA, ALL AT PIER 16. BY THE FALL OF 2021, THE MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO BRING YOUNG PEOPLE BACK TO THE SEAPORT FOR OUTDOOR FIELD TRIPS, AT NO COST FOR NYC PUBLIC AND TITLE I SCHOOLS. AND THE INDOOR GALLERIES ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF 12 FULTON STREET ALSO REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC BY DECEMBER.
MARINE OPERATIONS:THE 1885 TALL SHIP WAVERTREE WAS OPEN AND FREE TO THE PUBLIC, AN OPEN-AIR VENUE ABOARD WHICH VISITORS COULD GET A GLIMPSE OF WHERE NEW YORK BEGINS. VISITORS ALSO ENJOYED GUIDED TOURS OF THE 1908 LIGHTSHIP AMBROSE, FREE PRINTING DEMONSTRATIONS AT BOWNE & CO., STATIONERS, AND RIDES ABOARD THE 1930 WOODEN TUG W.O. DECKER (NAMED "TUGBOAT OF THE YEAR" BY THE STEAMSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA).
CURATORIAL:THE MONTHLY SEA CHANTEY SINGS ON ZOOM EXPLODED IN POPULARITY EARLIER THIS YEAR, ENHANCED BY THE "SEA SONGS AND SEA LIVES" WEBINAR SERIES ON THE HISTORY OF SEA CHANTEYS, CENTERING THE VOICES OF FEMALE, BLACK, AND QUEER SAILORS. THESE AND OTHER WEBINARS ON TOPICS LIKE IMMIGRATION, TATTOO HISTORY, AND ARCHITECTURE IN THE SEAPORT REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON DEMAND.
