Part 3 - Line 4a
THE OHIO COALITION FOR QUALITY EDUCATION (OCQE) WAS ORGANIZED AND OPERATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF OHIO BY (A) ADVOCATING TO EXPAND THE QUALITY OPTIONS FOR CHILDREN PROVIDED BY OHIO'S SYSTEM OF PUBLIC EDUCATION (B) OPPOSING EFFORTS TO LIMIT, CUT BACK, OR ELIMINATE THE CHOICES PROVIDED BY OHIO'S SYSTEM OF PUBLIC EDUCATION AND, (C) EDUCATING THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT HOW COMPETITION AND CHOICE CAN IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION.DURING THE FIRST HALF OF 2019, THE COALITION CONTINUED ITS FOCUS TO WORK WITH LEADERS OF ITS MEMBER SCHOOLS ON SPECIFIC ISSUES RELATED TO THEIR SCHOOLS. ADDITIONALLY, THE PRESIDENT MET WITH MANY NON-MEMBER COMMUNITY SCHOOL OPERATORS AND MANAGEMENT COMPANIES REGARDING MEMBERSHIP IN THE COALITION. AS A RESULT, THE COALITION ADDED TO ITS SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP ROLLS.THE COALITION CONTINUES TO STAY CURRENT ON DECISIONS MADE BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, AS WELL AS THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, THAT MAY AFFECT CHARTER SCHOOLS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, THE STATE BOARD AND SOME LEGISLATORS WANT TO CLOSE CHARTER SCHOOLS IN OHIO. THIS TREND REMAINED THE SAME IN 2019 ALONG WITH CONSTANT CHANGES TO THE REPORT CARD. THE ONLY BRIGHT SPOT FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS IN 2019 WAS A SMALL INCREASE IN FUNDING INCLUDED IN THE BIENNIUM BUDGET FOR 2020.
