SEPA MUJER HAS BEEN SERVING IMMIGRANT WOMEN IN LONG ISLAND, NY SINCE 1993. WE BRING TOGETHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ADVOCATES. TOGETHER WE SPEAK OUT AGAINST INJUSTICE, PROVIDE ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITIES AND SERVICES. WE STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND PUSH FOR SOCIAL CHANGE.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AIMS TO EMPOWER, EDUCATE, AND REDUCE BARRIERS THROUGH DIFFERENT PROJECTS AND CAMPAIGNS: EDUCATION AND OUTREACH:ADDRESSES ISSUES SUCH AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, WAGE THEFT,AND HEALTH EQUITY THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS IN SCHOOLS AND NON-PROFITS.LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT: AIMED AT EMPOWERING LATINA IMMIGRANT WOMEN, THIS PROGRAM OFFERS TRAINING ON THE U.S. LEGISLATIVE PROCESS, IMMIGRATION HISTORY, WOMENS RIGHTS, AND MORE.GIRLS A.C.T. PROGRAM: A MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE FOR LATINA YOUTH (14-20) IN SUFFOLK COUNTY, OFFERING LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, COLLEGE TOURS, AND COLLABORATION WITH SEPA MUJER STAFF. HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAM: WE PARTNERED WITH VARIOUS ENTITIES TO ENSURE HEALTH ACCESS AND EDUCATION FOR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES.EXCLUDED WORKERS FUND CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE EXCLUDED WORKERS ON THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSABILITIES.ERAP:AIDED LANDLORDS AND TENANTS IN TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN TO BENEFIT FROM THE EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.


CASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:SEPA MUJER CONTINUED TO HELP IMMIGRANT FAMILIES ON LONG ISLAND WITH FUNDS FROM THE EMERGENCY FOOD SHELTER PROGRAM (EFSP). THE PROGRAM PROVIDED FINANCIAL RELIEF WITH RENT, MORTGAGE, AND FOOD EXPENSES FOR PEOPLE IN NEED. THIS ASSISTANCE WAS DIRECTED TO SINGLE MOTHERS, IMMIGRANT WOMEN SURVIVORS OF GENDER VIOLENCE, AND IMMIGRANT WOMEN WHO LOST THEIR JOBS AND DID NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY OTHER TYPE OF GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE. IN 2022 THROUGH FUNDS FROM THE NYS OFFICE FOR THE PREVENTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (OPDV) THE ORGANIZATION ASSISTED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND THEIR CHILDREN WITH OVER $100,000 OF SHORT-TERM EXPENSES RELATED TO HOUSING AND ESSENTIAL NEEDS.


VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS PROGRAM, INITIATED IN 2019 WITH FUNDING FROM THE NYS OFFICE OF VICTIMS SERVICES, AIDS LATINA IMMIGRANT VICTIMS OF OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, HATE CRIMES, GANG VIOLENCE, AND WAGE THEFT.IN 2021 THE PROGRAM EXPANDED WITH SUPPORT FROM THE OFFICE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (OVW) AND THE OFFICE OF VICTIMS CRIME (OVC). 425 VICTIMS RECEIVED CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, WITH 325 MENTAL HEALTH AND 165 HOUSING REFERRALS. WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUPS, BOTH IN-PERSON AND REMOTE, WERE HELD. AYUDA LATINA HOTLINE, A 24/7 SPANISH SERVICE LAUNCHED IN APRIL 2020, SAW 19 VOLUNTEERS HANDLE 1,200 CALLS IN 2022. THRIVING LATINAS EMPOWERS SURVIVORS WITH SKILLS FOR INDEPENDENCE AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH. THE FREEDOM PLAN FOCUSES ON LATINA VICTIMS OF LABOR TRAFFICKING, OFFERING EDUCATION, EMERGENCY HOUSING, AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT.SANAR PROGRAM STARTING 2022 PROVIDES CULTURALLY SENSITIVE RESOURCES FOR NON-INTIMATE PARTNER SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS.


LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY AND CULTURALLY SENSITIVE LEGAL SERVICES IS A CRITICAL NEED FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN ESCAPING ABUSE AND VIOLENCE. THE CHARITY STRIVES TO PROVIDE QUALITY IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES TO ADULT IMMIGRANT VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND OTHER ABUSE. ITS ATTORNEY OFFICE OFFERS LEGAL SERVICES TO THOSE ELIGIBLE FOR U VISA, T VISA, VAWA AND GENDER ASYLUM, AND MORE, WITH LITTLE TO NO CHARGE. WE UNDERSTAND THE EVERYDAY OBSTACLES IMMIGRANT VICTIMS OF SUFFOLK COUNTY FACE SUCH AS WORKERS RIGHTS VIOLATIONS, IMMIGRATION RAIDS, AND LACK OF LANGUAGE ACCESS, THE LATTER OF WHICH IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING CONSIDERING IT CAN BE A DETERMINING FACTOR IN UNREPORTED CRIMES. THEY FIERCELY ADVOCATE, ALONG WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ADVOCATES, FOR INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME UNDER TITLE VI OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964.
