COA HAS APPROXIMATELY 900 MEMBERS WHICH INCLUDES NOVICE AND ADVANCED COLLECTORS, STUDENTS, PROFESSIONAL MALACOLOGISTS, MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, AND OTHERS FROM AROUND THE US AND THE WORLD. COA'S EMPHASIS IS TO INCREASE THE INTEREST IN MOLLUSKS THROUGH EDUCATION; TO APPRECIATE THEIR BEAUTY; THEIR BENEFIT TO ECOSYSTEM AND MANKIND; AND TO PROMOTE THE PRESERVATION OF THEM AND THEIR HABITATS AND ENVIRONMENT.

COA PROVIDES MONETARY GRANTS OF UP TO 2,500 EACH TO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF MALACOLOGY AND TO SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS.


COA MAINTAINS A WEBSITE AS AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MALACOLOGY AND CONCHOLOGY.


COA PUBLISHES A QUARTERLY MAGAZINE, AMERICAN CONCHOLOGIST, (CIRCULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 1,200) TO SHARE INFORMATION ON SHELLS AND SHELLING WITH ALL MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. EMPHASIS OF THE MAGAZINE IS EDUCATION.


FOR OVER 30 YEARS, COA HAS SPONSORED A TROPHY FOR SHELL SHOWS HELD EACH YEAR IN THE US AND ABROAD. THE COA AWARD IS GIVEN TO THE EXHIBIT AT EACH SHELL SHOW THAT BEST INCREASES THE INTEREST IN SHELLS.
