ESTABLISHED IN 1976, VICTIMS INFORMATION BUREAU OF SUFFOLK ("VIBES") HAS BEEN A PIONEER IN THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE RAPE CRISIS MOVEMENTS. VIBES' MISSION IS TO ASSIST THE SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, RAPE, AND SEXUAL ASSAULT, ELDER ABUSE, CHILD ABUSE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, AND VETERANS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER OR MILITARY SEXUAL TRAUMAS; TO PREVENT THE INCIDENCE OF THESE CRIMES THROUGH EDUCATION PROGRAMS; AND TO RAISE COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF THE NEED FOR JUSTICE AND COMPASSION FOR VICTIMS. BECAUSE VIBES ENVISIONS A COMMUNITY FREE OF ALL FORMS OF ABUSE, IT ADVOCATES FOR SOCIETAL CHANGES THAT WILL ELIMINATE OR DECREASE DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE, ELDER ABUSE, AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING. PROGRAMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:1. HOTLINE COUNSELING, INTERVENTION, INFORMATION, AND REFERRALS TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.2. CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADVOCACY AND COURT ACCOMPANIMENT. 3. SOCIAL SERVICE ADVOCACY AND ASSISTANCE TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. 4. INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING TO VICTIMS OF ALL AGES. 5. SPECIALIZED SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WHO WITNESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR HOMICIDE, AS WELL AS FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN SEXUALLY ABUSED, INCLUDING TRAUMA-INFORMED COUNSELING, DRAMA, PLAY AND ART THERAPY, AND CHILDCARE GROUPS THAT HAVE INCORPORATED PET THERAPY. 6. AN ELDER ABUSE PROGRAM THAT INCLUDES HOME VISITS, COUNSELING, ADVOCACY, AND PREVENTION. 7. SPECIALIZED GROUPS FOR ADOLESCENT VICTIMS, INCLUDING SATELLITE SERVICES WITH COMMUNITY NON-PROFIT PARTNERS. 8. A WIDE ARRAY OF EDUCATIONAL AND PREVENTIVE SERVICES AIMED AT STUDENTS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THROUGH COLLEGE, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND PROFESSIONALS. 9. LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN FAMILY COURT FOR DIVORCES, CHILD CUSTODY, AND ORDERS OF PROTECTION. 10. AN ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING PROGRAM THAT OFFERS COUNSELING, INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT, AND ADVOCACY TO SURVIVORS OF LABOR AND SEX TRAFFICKING OF ALL AGES. 11. ALL SERVICES ARE OFFERED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH. 12. THE RAPE CRISIS PROGRAM COORDINATES THE SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINER ("SANE") PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT. THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH THREE HOSPITALS, THE SUFFOLK COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE SUFFOLK COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. A VOLUNTEER RAPE CRISIS ADVOCATE IS THERE TO PROVIDE COMFORT AND INFORMATION TO THE VICTIMS AND THE VICTIMS' FAMILIES.
