CANSTRUCTION HOLDS ANNUAL DESIGN AND BUILD COMPETITIONS TO CONSTRUCT STRUCTURES MADE ENTIRELY OUT OF CANNED FOOD. IN EACH CITY, AFTER THE STRUCTURES ARE BUILT AND THE WINNERS ARE DECLARED, THE CREATION GOES ON VIEW TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS AN ART EXHIBIT. AT THE CLOSE OF THE COMPETITIONS, ALL THE FOOD USED IN THE STRUCTURE IS DONATED TO THE LOCAL FOOD BANKS FOR DISTRUBUTION TO COMMUNITY EMERGENCY FEEDING PROGRAMS. CANSTRUCTION ADOPTED A NEW PROGRAM TO HOLD VIRTUAL COMPETITIONS WHEN FACED WITH THE PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES OF IN-PERSON DESIGN/BUILD COMPETITIONS. TEAMS DESIGNED STRUCTURES IN A CAD FORMAT AND MADE CASH DONATIONS TO THEIR LOCAL FOOD BANKS FOR THE HYPOTHETICAL COST OF THEIR UNBUILT STRUCTURES. THE VIRTUAL STRUCTURES CONTINUED TO COMPETE FOR DESIGN PRIZES AS WELL.
