HEALING COMMUNITIES STUDY - WILL TEST THE INTEGRATION OF PREVENTION, OVERDOSE TREATMENT, AND MEDICATION-BASED TREATMENT IN SELECT COMMUNITIES HARD HIT BY THE OPIOID CRISIS. THIS COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT MODEL WILL BE TESTED IN A COORDINATED ARRAY OF SETTINGS, INCLUDING PRIMARY CARE, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY SETTINGS. FINDINGS WILL ESTABLISH BEST PRACTICES FOR INTEGRATING PREVENTION AND TREATMENT STRATEGIES THAT CAN BE REPLICATED BY COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE. THE PREVENTION COUNCIL OF PUTNAM IS THE LEAD FOR THE STUDY IN PUTNAM COUNTY.
DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES (DFC) SUPPORT PROGRAM GRANT - THE DFC PROGRAM, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COMMUNITIES THAT CARE (CTC) COALITION, AIMS TO REDUCE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG YOUTH BY ADDRESSING COMMUNITY FACTORS THAT INCREASE THE RISK OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND PROMOTING FACTORS THAT MINIMIZE THE RISK OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE. THE CTC COALITION INCLUDES INDIVIDUALS FROM ALL SECTORS OF THE COMMUNITY WHO WORK TOGETHER TO REDUCE RISK FACTORS AND STRENGTHEN PROTECTIVE FACTORS THROUGH EDUCATION, ENFORCEMENT, AND POLICY INITIATIVES.
NYS OFFICE OF ALCOHOLISM AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES CONTRACT IS TO PROVIDE CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY PREVENTION SERVICES IN PUTNAM COUNTY, NY. THIS INCLUDES PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL FORUMS AND PRESENTATIONS TO FACULTY, PARENTS AND STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, AS WELL AS PARTICIPATING IN COMMUNITY EVENTS AND HEALTH FAIRS. WE ALSO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES, AS WELL AS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH TRAINING AND AN ANNUAL PREVENTION CONFERENCE.
YOU(TH) DECIDE IS DESIGNED TO BE A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL PREVENTION EFFORT, WHICH IS AIMED AT REDUCING UNDERAGE GAMBLING IN NEW YORK STATE. THROUGH WORK WITH LOCAL PROVIDERS, YOU(TH)DECIDE AIMS TO EMPOWER YOUTH AGE 12-17 TO MAKE EDUCATED DECISIONS REGARDING THEIR GAMBLING BEHAVIORS AND TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF UNDERAGE GAMBLING AMONG PARENTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. NYCPG UTILIZES CONNECTIONS AT THE REGIONAL AND STATE LEVELS TO INCREASE COMMUNITY READINESS TO PREVENT UNDERAGE GAMBLING AND TO REDUCE YOUTH ACCESS TO GAMBLING. SENIOR PARTNERSHIP SERVICES IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THREE PUTNAM COUNTY AGENCIES: COVECARE CENTER, THE PUTNAM COUNTY OFFICE FOR SENIOR RESOURCES, AND THE PREVENTION COUNCIL OF PUTNAM. FOR RESIDENTS OF PUTNAM COUNTY AGED 55 AND OLDER WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH AND/OR SUBSTANCE USE ISSUES, THE PROGRAM OFFERS ASSESSMENTS, CARE MANAGEMENT, AND COUNSELING AND WILL CONNECT PEOPLE WITH OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND HELP CREATE A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE.
