THE OBJECTIVE OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE NEW CANAAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY WAS "TO BRING TOGETHER AND ARRANGE THE HISTORICAL EVENTS OF THE TOWN OF NEW CANAAN, THE GENEALOGIES OF THE FAMILIES WHO HAVE LIVED IN TOWN, TO FORM A LIBRARY AND TO COLLECT RELICS AND CUSIOSITIES, AND TO FORM A MUSEUM." OUR MISSION NOW ADDS TO THIS DIRECTIVE BY EMPHASIZING RESEARCH, PRESERVATION, AND EDUCATION. OUR MOST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE SCHOOL TOURS, A MODERN HOUSE DAY TOUR TO CELEBRATE MID CENTURY MODERN ARCHITECTURE, AND NUMEROUS EXHIBITIONS.

THE SOCIETY'S DAILY OPERATIONS ENCOMPASS MANY DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES: THE SOCIETY MAINTAINS AND OPERATES NEW CANAAN'S FIRST TOWN HALL (1825), NOW EXPANDED TO HOUSE A LIBRARY AND VALUT WITH DOCUMENTS, GENEALOGIES, ART AND ARTIFACTS, AS WELL AS THE SILLIMAN-MONROE-CODY DRUG STORE MUSEUM (1846) AND AN EXTENSIVE CLOTHING AND TEXTILE COLLECTION; THE HANFORD-SILLIMAN HOUSE MUSEUM (C.1764); THE RODGERS STUDIO MUSEUM (1878); THE TOOL MUSEUM AND NINETEETH-CENTURY PRINTING OFFICE; THE ROCK SCHOOL (1799); OFF CAMPUS THE LITTLE RED SCHOOL HOUSE (1855), AND THE MID-CENTURY MODERN GORES PAVILLION (1960). IT OPERATES A RESEARCH LIBRARY; A FULL SCHEUDLE OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS; A PLAQUING PROGRAM FOR HISTORIC HOMES; PUBLICATIONS ON NEW CANAAN'S HISTORY. IT HAS THREE GALLERY SPACES AND PUTS ON EXHIBITIONS IN EACH OF THOSE. IT RUNS PROGRAMS, EVENTS AND LECTURES. THE LARGEST PROGRAMS FOR FISCAL 2022 WERE: 1. OCTOBER4DESIGN, A MONTH LONG SERICES OF PROGRAMS, LECTURES, AND ACTIVITES INVOLVING ARCHITECTURE, ART, AND DESIGN. 2. FALL BACK INTO HISTORY - A PARTY HELD IN SEPTEMBER 2021 THAT WELCOMED PEOPLE BACK TO CAMPUS3. WOMEN OF WAVENY - AN EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY CURATED BY MICHELA PORTA AND ARIANNE KOLB 4.
