EDUCATION AND OUTREACH- IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LAKE SUPERIOR RESERVE, OUR RIVERS2LAKE EDUCATION MENTOR ENGAGED ALUMNI OF THE SOUTH SHORE RIVERS2LAKE EDUCATION PROGRAM AND OTHER LOCAL EDUCATORS WITH OUTDOOR EDUCATION AND WATERSHED EDUCATION ACTIVITIES. WE DEVELOPED SLOW THE FLOW EDUCATION TO REACH A BROADER AUDIENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS WATERSHED HEALTH.
WATER QUALITY MONITORING- OUR VOLUNTEER WATER QUALITY MONITORING PROGRAM ENGAGED 37 MACROINVERTEBRATE MONITORING VOLUNTEERS AT 11 SITES, AND 14 MONTHLY CHEMICAL MONITORING VOLUNTEERS AT 20 SITES. STAFF LED VOLUNTEERS THROUGH SORTING AND IDENTIFICATION SESSIONS TO DETERMINE WATERSHED HEALTH AND MAINTAINED QUALITY CONTROL SESSIONS FOR CHEMICAL DATA.
WATERSHED ACTION PLANNING: THE 10 YEAR REVISION OF THE MARENGO RIVER WATERSHED ACTION PLAN ENGAGED DOZENS OF LOCAL PARTNERS WORKING IN NATURAL RESOURCES, NATURAL FLOOD MANAGEMENT, AND WATER QUALITY IN THE MARENGO RIVER WATERSHED. WORKING CLOSELY WITH PARTNERS SUCH AS MASHKIIZIIBII NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, ASHLAND COUNTY LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT, AND WISCONSIN WELTANDS ASSOCIATION, WE SUBMITTED A DRAFT REISION TO THE WISCONSIN DNR IN NOVEMBER PRIOR TO EPA SUBMISSION.
WATERSHED RESTORATION- IN 2022, SRWA WRAPPED A SLOW THE FLOW TREE PLANTING RESTORATION PROJECT BY PROTECTING 186 ACRES OF TREE SEEDLINGS FROM GRAZING DEER.
