DURING 2016, THE NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON SMALL BUSINESS POLICY-RELATED ISSUES AND ECONOMIC TRENDS THROUGH THE USE OF NFIBS BUSINESS SIZE INSIGHT MODULE (BSIM), INDEPENDENT STUDIES AND THE "SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC TRENDS" SURVEY. THE RESEARCH PRODUCED THROUGH THE FOUNDATION ON SMALL BUSINESS IS GENERALLY AVAILABLE TO POLICYMAKERS, SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS, SCHOLARS AND THE PUBLIC. THE RESEARCH FOUNDATION PRODUCED 12 MONTHLY "SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC TRENDS" REPORTS IN 2016 BASED ON A 43 YEAR, ON-GOING NFIB MEMBERSHIP SURVEY. THE SURVEY TRACKS SMALL BUSINESS TRENDS INCLUDING: EMPLOYMENT, EARNINGS, COMPENSATION, FINANCING AND OTHER RELEVANT ECONOMIC INDICATORS. NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION CONDUCTED FIVE STUDIES IN 2016 USING NFIBS BSIM MODEL, INCLUDING TWO STUDIES ON FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE PROPOSALS, NJ MINIMUM WAGE LEGISLATION, A CA SALES AND USE TAX, AND A MD PAID SICK LEAVE STUDY. THE BSIM COMPARES A BASELINE ECONOMIC FORECAST OF THE UNITED STATES AND 10 STATES TO ONE THAT INTRODUCES A NEW REGULATION. THE BSIM CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: A REGULATORY INTERFACE AND A SEVEN REGION INTER-INDUSTRY ECONOMETRIC FORECASTING MODEL CALLED REMI. LEASED FROM REGIONAL ECONOMIC MODELS, INC., THE BSIM COMBINES THE CALCULATION OF DIRECT, INDIRECT AND INDUCED ECONOMIC COSTS. THE NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION PUBLISHED THE SMALL BUSINESS PROBLEMS AND PRIORITIES SURVEY AND A SURVEY RELATED TO SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IN COORDINATION WITH AMERICAN EXPRESS. OTHER PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE SURVEYS ON REGULATIONS, TAXES AND PAYMENT. THE NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION HOSTED FOUR "SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC ROADSHOW" EVENTS WITH VISA, INC., IN LOS ANGELES, CA, SACRAMENTO, CA, SPOKANE, WA AND PORTLAND, OR. NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATIONS DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH AND POLICY ANALYSIS TESTIFIED BEFORE THE U.S. HOUSE SMALL BUSINESS COMMITTEE.
AT A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS IN FEBRUARY 2017, A RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED FOR THE DISSOLUTION AND TERMINATION OF NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION. AS PART OF THIS PROCESS, NON-CASH PROPERTY AND INTANGIBLE ASSETS OF THE CORPORATION WERE SOLD TO NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS WHICH CONTINUES TO CARRY OUT THE PROGRAM ACTIVITES OF THE FORMER NFIB RESEARCH FOUNDATION. THE SALE TO NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS WAS PURSUANT TO AN APPRAISAL BY AN INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY TO ENSURE ASSETS WERE SOLD AT FAIR MARKET VALUE. ALL TRANSACTIONS TO EFFECT THE DISSOLUTION OF THE CORPORATION WERE COMPLETED AS OF OCTOBER 2017.
