Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
WE ARE DEDICATED TO PROVIDING FUNDING FOR MEDICAL PROCEDURES, EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT TO THE DISPLACED REFUGEE AND MIGRANT POPULATIONS FROM BURMA LIVING ALONG THE THAI-BURMA BORDER. BBP HAS A LONG HISTORY OF OVER 18 YEARS IN WORKING WITH DISPLACED BURMESE REFUGEES AND MIGRANTS IN THE AREAS OF MENTAL HEALTH, PSYCHOSOCIAL WELL-BEING, AND EDUCATION. IN ADDITION, BBP IS ALSO PRESENTLY FOCUSING ITS EFFORTS ON PROVIDING FUNDING FOR COMPLEX OFTEN LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WHICH CAN NOT BE READILY PROVIDED BY LOCAL INDIGENOUS MEDICAL CLINICS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THERE ARE OVER 2 MILLION MIGRANT WORKERS FROM BURMA NOW LIVING IN THAILAND. MANY OF THESE WORKERS HAVE CHILDREN WHO FOR VARIOUS REASONS ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND THAI SCHOOLS. THERE EXISTS A MAKESHIFT NETWORK OF SCHOOLS CALLED MIGRANT LEARNING CENTERS WHICH ATTEMPTS TO PROVIDE A BASIC EDUCATION FOR THESE CHILDREN. BURMA BORDER PROJECTS SUPPORTS SOME OF THESE SCHOOLS BY PROVIDING SALARIES FOR TEACHERS AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL IN SUPPORT OF THIS MISSION. OUR COUNSELING PROGRAMS PROVIDE DIRECT ONE-ON-ONE TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPY TO CHILDREN WHO HAVE SUFFERED FROM CHILD ABUSE AND INDIVIDUALS OF ANY AGE WHO HAVE SUFFERED FROM HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
MANY CHILDREN OF REFUGEES FROM BURMA WHO ARE LIVING IN THAILAND BECOME VERY SERIOUSLY ILL--TOO ILL TO BE TREATED BY LOCAL MEDICAL CLINICS LIKE THE MAE TAO CLINIC WHICH ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE ONLY BASIC MEDICAL SERVICES. THESE VERY SICK CHILDREN REQUIRE COMPLEX AND OFTEN VERY EXPENSIVE MEDICAL PROCEDURES, OFTENTIMES TO AVOID DEATH. BBP PROVIDES THE FUNDING TO ENSURE THAT THESE CHILDREN RECEIVE THE VERY BEST MEDICAL CARE AVAILABLE IN THAILAND WHICH IS FOUND ONLY AT THE MOST REPUTABLE (AND EXPENSIVE) HOSPITALS IN CHAING MAI AND IN BANGKOK.
