HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATION PROGRAMS - ENCOURAGE AND GUIDE YOUTH AND ADULTS TO ENTER A HEALTH PROFESSION. WE DO THIS IN THREE WAYS: 1) BY PROMOTING THE MANY BENEFITS AND OPTIONS OF A CAREER IN HEALTH CARE; 2) BY PREPARING PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WITH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CAREER AND COLLEGE PATHWAYS; AND 3) TEACHING HEALTH AND SCIENCE RELATED SKILLS. PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED IN SCHOOL-BASED AND RESIDENTIAL SETTINGS AND ONLINE PLATFORMS.
RECRUITMENT & RETENTION - NORTHERN VERMONT AHEC WORKS TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN ADEQUATE NUMBERS OF WELL-TRAINED PROFESSIONALS TO THE HEALTH CARE WORKFORCE IN OUR REGION. WE DO THIS IN THREE WAYS: 1) BY PARTICIPATING IN EDUCATION LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAMS FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN A PARTICIPANT IN THE SLRP FEDERAL ELR PROGRAM FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND LEGISLATIVE APPROPRIATIONS ARE EARMARKED FOR LDAC'S, WHICH MAY BE A SEPARATE PROGRAM AS WELL; 2) BY SUPPORTING COMMUNITY-BASED AND CLINICAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES FOR HEALTH AND ALLIED HEALTH CAREERS STUDENTS IN OUR REGION THAT DEMONSTRATE THE VALUE AND BENEFITS OF RURAL PRACTICE AND LIFESTYLE; AND 3) BY CONDUCTING AN ANNUAL SURVEY OF PRACTITIONERS TO DETERMINE PRIMARY CARE WORKFORCE SHORTAGES AND CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL NEEDS.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION - PROVIDES HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND DECISION MAKERS WITH RELEVANT AND TIMELY INFORMATION AND EDUCATION TO IMPROVE SYSTEMS OF CARE AND PATIENT OUTCOMES.
