THE INTERNATIONAL STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY SOCIETY (ISRS) WAS FOUNDED AS A WORLDWIDE ORGANIZATION IN 1991 AND REMAINS THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL BODY OF ITS KIND. CREATED TO FOSTER LEARNING AND RESEARCH ON THE TOPICS OF BRAIN AND BODY RADIOSURGERY, THE SOCIETY IS HIGHLY DEDICATED TO: 1. PROMOTING TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY 2. PROMOTING THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF CLINICAL EXPERTISE 3. CONVENING EVERY TWO YEARS AT THE ISRS CONGRESS THE ISRS FOSTERS TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH ON THE TOPICS OF BRAIN AND BODY RADIOSURGERY BY HOLDING BIENNIAL CONGRESSES, MAINTAINING A WEBSITE, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES TO ENCOURAGE THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION.

THE ISRS ORGANIZES AND HOLDS A BIENNIAL CONGRESS TO ENCOURAGE INTERACTION AMONG INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS DEDICATED TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY AND TO GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO BROADEN AND DEVELOP THEIR KNOWLEDGE WITH FELLOW PROFESSIONALS. IN ADDITION TO OTHER ACTIVITIES AT THE BIENNIAL CONGRESS, THE ISRS MAKES CERTAIN AWARDS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF RADIOSURGERY, SCIENTIFIC PAPERS, AND POSTERS. ABOUT 779 NEUROSURGEONS, RADIATION ONCOLOGISTS, MEDICAL PHYSICISTS AND OTHERS WERE PRESENT AT THE FOURTEENTH BIENNIAL CONGRESS HELD IN 2019 IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL. (THE NEXT CONGRESS WAS DELAYED UNTIL JUNE 2022 DUE TO COVID.)
