Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY IS A NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN HOUSING MINISTRY THAT SEEKS TO BE A PARTNER AND CATALYST IN BUILDING COMMUNITIES WHERE EVERYONE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE. WE BELIEVE OUR MODEL OF SERVICE CAPITAL, NOT CHARITY, CO-WORKERS AND NOT CASE WORKERS PROVIDES A STRENGTH-BASED APPROACH THAT ENHANCES THE CAPABILITIES OF FAMILIES, ENCOURAGING THEM TO DRAW ON THEIR OWN SELF DETERMINATION AND STRENGTHS. WE BELIEVE THAT FAMILIES WHO INVEST IN THEMSELVES THROUGH FINANCIAL EDUCATION AND SWEAT EQUITY IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THEIR OWN HOMES TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF THEIR CHILDREN FOR THE BETTER. OUR FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO INVEST 200-350 HOURS OF SWEAT EQUITY INTO HABITAT PROGRAMS. THE OWNER AND FAMILIES ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO COMPLETE CERTAIN HOMEOWNERSHIP READINESS CLASSES BEFORE PURCHASING THEIR HABITAT HOMES, AS THE MORTGAGE HOLDER HABITAT OF NORTH CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS IS ABLE TO PROVIDE A 0% INTEREST MORTGAGE LOAN.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
WITH A MISSION TO STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOME OWNERSHIP THE ORGANIZATION HAS BROADENED ITS EFFORTS TO IMPACT AS MANY LOWER INCOME FAMILIES AS POSSIBLE. IN NORTH CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS WE CONTINUE TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH EITHER BUILDING NEW HOMES OR RENOVATING OWNER OCCUPIED HOMES STARTING WITH VETERAN FAMILIES AND THEN BRANCHING OUT TO ALL POTENTIAL FAMILIES. THE ORGANIZATION IS CONCENTRATING ITS EFFORTS IN SPECIFIC AREAS IN ORDER TO MAKE THE GREATEST IMPACT.
THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A RESTORE. THE STORE RECEIVES DONATED BUILDING MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES FROM CONTRACTORS THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE DISPOSED OF AT THE END OF CONSTRUCTION. WE ALSO RECEIVE DONATIONS OF FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS FROM INDIVIDUALS. THESE ITEMS ARE SUBSEQUENTLY RESOLD TO GENERATE FUNDS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE RESOURCES TO CONTINUE OUR AFFORDABLE HOME BUILDING PROCESS.
