Part 3 - Line 4a

THE ASSOCIATED KYOTO PROGRAM REPRESENTS ONE OF THE OLDEST STUDY-ABROAD PROGRAMS IN JAPAN. THE PROGRAM MAINTAINS THE HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND DEDICATION TO A SOUND LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION FOR WHICH ITS SPONSORING INSTITUTIONS ARE KNOWN. NORMALLY, EACH YEAR STUDENTS FROM US INSTITUTIONS ARE ACCEPTED TO TRAVEL TO JAPAN TO STUDY THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE INTENSIVELY AND TAKE COURSES ON JAPANESE CULTURE IN ENGLISH. STUDENTS CAN APPLY FOR CULTURAL ACTIVITY, SPRING FIELD TRIP, RESEARCH, AND INTERNSHIP GRANTS TO ENHANCE THEIR EXPERIENCE OF JAPANESE CULTURE AND HELP THEM PURSUE INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECTS OUTSIDE OF THE REGULAR CURRICULUM. JAPANESE STUDENTS ALSO HAVE THE CHANCE TO STUDY IN THE US AT THE SPONSORING INSTITUTIONS. BECAUSE OF TRAVEL AND VISA RESTRICTIONS RELATED TO COVID-19, THE NORMAL OPERATIONS OF THE PROGRAM WERE SUSPENDED FOR THE 2020-21 ACADEMIC YEAR. IN THEIR PLACE, THE PROGRAM SUPPORTED JAPANESE LANGUAGE LEARNING AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE BY PARTNERING US AND JAPANESE STUDENTS FOR AN ONLINE LANGUAGE EXCHANGE, OPERATING ONLINE GROUP CONVERSATION SESSIONS IN JAPANESE, AND CREATING ONLINE CONTENT RELATED TO JAPANESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
