THIS IS DONE BY IDENTIFYING THE HIGHEST PRIORITY AREAS FOR HEALTH EFFECT RESEARCH; FUNDING AND OVERSEEING RESEARCH; PROVIDING INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF RELATED RESEARCH PROJECTS; COLLABORATING WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS; COMMUNICATION OF RESULTS OF HEI RESEARCH AND ANALYSES TO PUBLIC AND PRIVATE DECISION MAKERS.

HEI'S INITIATIVE TO DEVELOP AN ENERGY RESEARCH PROGRAM FOR UNDERSTANDING POTENTIAL EXPOSURES TO AND IMPACTS OF UNCONVENTIONAL OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNITED STATES.
HEI'S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM IS AN INITIATIVE TO BUILD BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION ON HEALTH IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IN ASIA. HEI WORKS WITH SCIENTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO ESTIMATE THE GLOBAL BURDEN OF DISEASE FROM OUTDOOR AIR POLLUTION AND THE BURDENS FROM DIFFERENT AIR POLLUTION SOURCES.
