DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM (DHILS) OFFERS TRAINING AND SUPPORT SERVICES SO DEAF YOUTH, ADULTS, AND SENIORS (INCLUDING THOSE WITH AGE-RELATED HEARING LOSS) CAN ACQUIRE THE SKILLS, INFORMATION, SERVICES, REFERRALS, AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES THEY NEED TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY AND SAFELY. THE SENIOR INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES OFFERS INFORMATION AND ADVOCACY TO ENABLE SENIORS TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT AND SAFE IN THEIR OWN HOMES FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. YOUTH TRANSITION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR HIGH-SCHOOL AGE DEAF YOUTH AS THEY TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD, AND FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILLS. ASSISTIVE EQUIPMENT PROGRAM PROVIDES ACCESS TO FEDERAL FUNDS TO ACQUIRE APPROPRIATE ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND TRAINING SO PEOPLE CAN GET MORE EFFECTIVE USE OF HEARING AIDS, TELEPHONE AMPLIFIERS, ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES, AND THE LIKE. DEAF PARENTS SUPPORT GROUP ALLOWS DEAF PARENTS SHARE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO ADDRESS ISSUES THEY FACE RAISING THEIR CHILDREN (DEAF AND HEARING) FROM INFANCY THROUGH TEENS.
DEAFBLIND COMMUNITY ACCESS NETWORK (DBCAN): COMMUNITY ACCESS SUPPORT TO EXPAND AND MAINTAIN THE INDEPENDENCE OF DEAFBLIND ADULTS BY MATCHING THEM WITH SIGHTED DEAF, HARD OF HEARING, AND HEARING "PROVIDERS" TRAINED BY DBCAN TO PROVIDE GUIDING, 1:1 COMMUNICATION, AND VISUAL INFORMATION SUPPORTS.
DEAF, INC. ALSO OFFERS TUITION-BASED AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES (FOR HARD OF HEARING/LATE-DEAFENED AND HEARING ADULTS WHO WANT TO LEARN ASL AND LEARN ABOUT DEAF CULTURE). THIS PROGRAM HELPS SUPPORT DIRECT SERVICES AND OTHER CRITICAL AGENCY FUNCTIONS, LIKE COMMUNICATION ACCESS.
