PRESERVATION AND RENOVATION OF THE OLD STATE HOUSE, AN HISTORIC LANDMARK OF COLONIAL-ERA BOSTON; AND OPERATION OF THE OLD STATE HOUSE MUSEUM, TO PROMOTE BETTER PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE PERIOD AND INTELLECTUAL CLIMATE THAT GAVE BIRTH TO THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
GENERAL PROGRAMMING ACTIVITIES INCLUDE CONSERVATION OF THE SOCIETY'S COLLECTION AND ARCHIVES AS A RESOURCE FOR BOTH RESEARCHERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND INTERPRETING THE OLD STATE HOUSE AND ITS HISTORY THROUGH EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMMING TARGETED TO MUSEUM VISITORS, SCHOOL GROUPS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. PROGRAMS INCLUDE: GALLERY PROGRAMS AND SUBJECT-BASED MUSEUM TOURS, COSTUMED HISTORIANS PROVIDING FIRST-PERSON INTERPRETATION, LARGE-SCALE HISTORICAL RE-ENACTMENTS, AND SITE-SPECIFIC HISTORY THEATRE PRODUCTIONS.
