THE JESUP SERVES AS A CONNECTION POINT OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE JESUP HOLDS MORE THAN 39,000 BOOKS IN OUR PERMANENT COLLECTION, 23,000 BOOKS AND AUDIOBOOKS TO DOWNLOAD, 1,000 BOOKS ON CD, AND 1,200 MOVIES ON DVD. THE COLLECTION INCLUDES BOOKS ON THE HISTORY OF MAINE, MDI, AND OUR LOCAL ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. WE ALSO OFFER LOCAL HISTORY RESOURCES, INCLUDING FREE ACCESS TO DIGITIZED LOCAL NEWSPAPERS DATING FROM 1881 TO 1969. ACCESS TO ANY BOOK IN THE STATE OF MAINE AND BEYOND IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROGRAM. IN ADDITION,JESUP OFFERS FREE WIFI, 4 PUBLIC-USE COMPUTERS, AND PRINTING/SCANNING. ALSO OFFERED IS FREE ONLINE ACCESS TO CERTAIN RESEARCH AND INFORMATION DATABASES FROM ANY COMPUTER OR INTERNET-ENABLED DEVICE WITHIN THE JESUP. ALSO OFFERED IS INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS. JESUP HOLDS AUTHOR TALKS ON BOTH FICTION AND NON-FICTION WORKS, BOOK SIGNINGS, CONCERTS, AND A WIDE RANTE OF INFORMATIVE PROGRAMS AND FORMATS. PROGRAMMING IS FREE TO EVERYONE AND OPEN TO ALL, THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
JESUP'S CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WAS ABLE TO FUND STABILIZATION WORK ON THE EXISTING LIBRARY BUILDING WITH DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS AND BRICK REVITALIZATION. A SUBSTANTIAL GIFT IN 2021 WILL ENABLE THE LIBRARY TO BREAK GROUND IN 2023 ON THE ADDITION THAT HAS BEEN IN THE PLANNING STAGES FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THE EXPANSION WILL MODERNIZE THE LIBRARY'S SPACES, PROGRAMS, AND RESOURCES WHILE PRESERVING THE HISTORIC BUILDING.
