OUR PROGRAM, TO CARRY OUT THAT MISSION, IS TO DO ALL WE CAN TO INSURE THAT GOOD HOUSING IS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE MAKING ISLESBORO THEIR PERMANENT HOME, WHO PARTICIPATE OR WILL PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AND IN PARTICULAR, FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WHOSE WORK IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE DAY-TO-DAY LIFE ON ISLESBORO. IAP BUILDS HOUSES FOR SALE OR RENT. WE MONITOR THE PRIVATE REAL ESTATE MARKET. WE RAISE FUNDS FROM PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SOURCES TO UNDERWRITE OUR PROGRAM.

MISSION:

THE DEPARTMENTS PURPOSE IS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY ON ORRS AND BAILEY ISLANDS AND SUPPORT EMERGENCY SERVICES IN OTHER AREAS OF HARPSWELL AS NEEDED. THIS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, FIRE PREVENTION, FIRE EXTINGUISHING, EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE, SUPPORT DURING NATURAL DISASTERS WHEN HARPSWELLS GENERAL WELFARE IS AT RISK, AND MUTUAL AID TO OTHER DISTRICTS. THE DEPARTMENT ALSO HOLDS SOCIAL FUNCTIONS AND CONDUCTS FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES TO OBTAIN FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THESE ACTIVITIES.
