THE ORGANIZATION HELPS IMPROVE ACCESS TO LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS BY PROVIDING A PART TIME LIBRARY ASSISTANT, PURCHASING LIBRARY BOOKS AND FUNDING AFTER-SCHOOL PERFORMANCES FOR CHILDREN AT THE LIBRARY. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PAYS FOR THE ALARM SYSTEM.

THE SANTA BARBARA FORESTERS ARE AN AMATEUR BASEBALL ORGANIZATION. THE PLAYERS ARE AGES 18 AND UP AND ARE MOSTLY COLLEGIATE PLAYERS PLAYING IN JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST. THEY PLAY 50 GAMES PER SUMMER WITH HOME GAMES AT PERSHING PARK AND AWAY GAMES AT OTHER VARIOUS CITIES IN CALIFORNIA. THE FORESTERS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL BASEBALL CONGRESS WORLD SERIES IN WICHITA, KANSAS. THE SANTA BARBARA FORESTERS ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE "HUGS FOR CUBS" PROGRAM. THIS IS A SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AFFLICTED WITH CANCER. WE VISIT THE CHILDREN IN THE HOSPITAL IN BOTH SANTA BARBARA AND WICHITA AND SPONSOR A BASEBALL CLINIC FREE FOR THE CHILDREN EVERY SUMMER. WE ALSO TAKE THEM AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS TO PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL GAMES, WHALE WATCHING TRIPS, AND OTHER OUTINGS. WE ASSIST THE FAMILIES IN ANY TRANSPORTATION NEEDS THEY MAY HAVE. THESE ACTIVITIES ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF OUR TIME.

MISSION:

TERRA MARINE RESEARCH & EDUCATION, (TMRE), WAS INCORPORATED IN 1986 TO CONDUCT RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN THE MARINE SCIENCES AND RELATED FIELDS. TMRE SEEKS FUNDING AND PROVIDES LOGISTICAL SUPPORT FOR GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS ENGAGED IN PROJECTS DESIGNED TO FURTHER OUR UNDERSTANDING OF MARINE, ISLAND, AND COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS, AS WELL AS PROJECTS DESIGNED TO MINIMIZE IMPACT AND ENHANCE RESPONSIBLE UTILIZATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

MISSION:

A MAJOR FOCUS OF THE INTERNATIONAL LIONS ASSN IS TO HELP PEOPLE WITH SIGHT AND VISION PROBLEMS IMPROVE THEIR VISION. OTHER HEALTH CARE NEEDS SUPPORTED BY THE PROJECTS INCLUDE HEARING, DIABETES, AND CANCER. THE MAIN CHARITABLE ACTIVITY OF THIS ORGANIZATION (SEPARATE FROM IT'S LIONS CLUB AFFILIATIONS) IS THE ACQUISION OF SURPLUS LAND FOR THE PUBLIC'S USE AS A PUBLIC PARK AND COMMUNITY MEETING AREA. VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTE THEIR TIME FOR THE ONGOING MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF THE PUBLIC PARK, INCLUDING PROVIDING ACTIVITIES, ENTERTAINMENT, AND BBQ'S FOR MAJOR HOLIDAYS. THIS GROUP ALSO CONDUCTS FUNDRAISING EVENTS TO RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SCHOLARSHIPS, FOOD AND CLOTHING BANKS, COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION, SPECIAL TARGET PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND SENIOR CITIZENS, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
