THE PURPOSE OF THE EXEMPT ORGANIZATION IS TO FOSTER OCEAN STEWARDSHIP FOR CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND PUBLIC EDUCATION.

PROJECTS SUPPORT MKF MISSION: COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN MANAGEMENT OF COASTAL RESOURCES AND WATERSHED EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS USING HANDS-ON LEARNING. PROJECT OBJECTIVES INCLUDED: PROVIDE MEANINGFUL OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS TO ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN IMPACTS, FORM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA. FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, PROJECT OBJECTIVE IS TO ENGAGE IN MONITORING OF THEIR RESOURCES, ASSISTING AGENCIES WITH ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS. PROJECTS ARE ONGOING.


EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: TO EDUCATION AND PROVIDE OUTREACH TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ABOUT MARINE RESOURCES, CONSERVATION AND HOW HUMANS IMPACT THE ENVIRONMENT, FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA. CURRENT PROGRAMS INCLUDE REEF TALK, WHICH BRINGS IN LOCAL SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCHERS TO SPEAK ABOUT VARIOUS ISSUES OF THEIR RESEARCH WITH REGARD TO MARINE AND COASTAL RESOURCES.


COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: ENGAGING COMMUNITY IN MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF MARINE RESOURCES. PROJECT OBJECTIVES INCLUDE PROVIDING RESOURCES TO SUPPORT COORDINATION OF TWO GROUPS - ONE FOCUSING ON OBTAINING DONATIONS FROM MARINE TOUR OPERATIONS AND THE OTHER FOR MANAGEMENT OF FISHERY RESOURCES. PROJECTS ARE ONGOING.


DAY USE MOORING BUOYS: TO ACT AS LIAISON BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY AND STATE GOVERNMENT TO SELECT AND INSTALL DAY USE MOORING BUOYS TO PROTECT CORAL REEFS FROM DAMAGE. NEW BUOYS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INSTALLED WITH FUNDING FROMGRANT AND DONATIONS TO PURCHASE MATERIALS AND COVER BOAT COSTS. VOLUNTEERS DONATE TIME.
