LLMC'S (LAW LIBRARY MICROFORM CONSORTIUM) MISSION IS TO DIGITIZE AND PRESERVE LEGAL AND GOVERNMENT MATERIALS. THIS SERVICE IS CRITICAL TO UNIVERSITIES, COURTS, LAW FIRMS, AND SCHOLARS ACROSS THE WORLD ESPECIALLY AS HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS DECAY, SPACE IS LIMITED, AND LIBRARY BUDGETS DECLINE. AS ORGANIZATIONS EMBRACE GEOGRAPHICALLY DISTRIBUTED STAFF, DIGITIZING PRINT AND MICROFORMAT HISTORICAL LEGAL AND GOVERNMENT MATERIAL IS ESSENTIAL FOR REMOTE ACCESS.LLMC IS THE ONLY GLOBAL NONPROFIT CONSORTIUM EXPERTLY DIGITIZING AND PRESERVING HISTORICAL LEGAL DOCUMENTS. IN THE PAST YEAR, LLMC DIGITIZED AND PRESERVED AN ADDITIONAL 9,000 TITLES AND NOW THERE ARE MORE THAN 29,000+ TITLES ONLINE (93+ MILLION IMAGES). FOLLOWING THE AUTHORITATIVE DIGITIZATION AND CATALOGING OF THE CONTENT, BOOKS, MICROFICHE, AND/OR MICROFILM ARE SHIPPED TO SALT MINES FOR PERMANENT PRESERVATION. BY DIGITIZING AND PRESERVING THESE DOCUMENTS, LLMC ASSISTED SPACE ALLOCATION INITIATIVES FOR HUNDREDS OF LIBRARIES AND PROVIDED THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY ACCESS TO RARE, UNIQUE LEGAL DOCUMENTS. WITHOUT THIS INITIATIVE, SOME OF THESE HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS WOULD BE LOST FOREVER.AMONG OTHER INITIATIVES, LLMC IS DIGITIZING THE EARLY STATE RECORDS (ESR). BY DIGITIZING AND ADDING CRUCIAL METADATA TO ALL TITLES IN THIS SUBSTANTIAL MICROFILM COMPILATION, ESR DOCUMENTS SUCH AS MANUSCRIPTS WILL BE DISCOVERABLE BY THE EDUCATIONAL AND LEGAL COMMUNITY. IN 2022, THE ESR COLLECTION WAS THE MOST HEAVILY SEARCHED COLLECTION ON LLMC DIGITAL (LLMC'S ONLINE SERVICE). ESR WAS MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH FUNDING BY PATRON LIBRARIES AND A CLIR GRANT. OTHER NOTEWORTHY ENHANCEMENTS IN THE PAST YEAR INCLUDE ADDITION OF SOUTH AMERICA, INCLUDING SEPARATE MAPS FOR BRAZIL, PERU, AND BOLIVIA, TO THE OPEN ACCESS INDIGENOUS LAW PORTAL; AND, MUCH MORE VALUABLE CONTENT WITH PARTNERS SUCH AS GOOGLE BOOKS, LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, AND SEVERAL LIBRARIES. LLMC'S MISSION IS BOTH COST-EFFECTIVE AND ESSENTIAL FOR LIBRARIES AND THE RESEARCH COMMUNITY. THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF OUR MEMBERS, AND OUR ELECTED BOARD OF DIRECTORS, LLMC WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD IN ITS MISSION TO PRESERVE A PIECE OF HISTORY.
