LAND SECUREMENT AND CONSERVATION: THE NATURE TRUST IS A NOVA SCOTIA-WIDE LAND TRUST WITH A MISSION OF PROTECTING NOVA SCOTIA'S ECOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT NATURAL AREAS THROUGH LAND CONSERVATION. WE PROTECT PRIVATE LANDS, THROUGH CONSERVATION EASEMENTS, LAND PURCHASE, LAND DONATIONS AND BEQUESTS. DURING FISCAL 2023 THE NATURE TRUST PURCHASED 12 PROPERTIES FOR $3,199,378 AND RECEIVED 4 DONATED LAND PROPERTIES WITH A VALUE OF $122,561. LAND SECUREMENT EXPENSES TOTALED $992,905.


ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION, OUTREACH, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS: THE NATURE TRUST HAS AN ONGOING PROGRAM OF EDUCATION AIMED SPECIFICALLY AT OWNERS OF ECOLOGICALLY SIGNIFICANT LANDS, ENCOURAGING THEM TO PROTECT NATURAL AREAS ON THEIR LANDS. WE ALSO PROVIDE EDUCATION AIMED AT RECREATIONAL USERS OF PRIORITY HABITATS AIMED AT REDUCING THREATS AND IMPACTS ON THESE NATURAL AREAS,AND BROADER PUBLIC EDUCATION AIMED AT INCREASING AWARENESS AND SUPPORT.


LAND STEWARDSHIP: WE HAVE A PROGRAM OF ONGOING STEWARDSHIP & MANAGEMENT TO ENSURE THAT THE NATURAL VALUES OF THESE LANDS ARE PROTECTED IN PERPETUITY. WE HAVE A SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY ENGAGED IN MONITORING, RESTORATION, AND HANDS-ON HABITAT AND SPECIES STEWARDSHIP.
