IN 2021, CIFOR CONTINUED TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS TO FIVE INTERCONNECTED GLOBAL CHALLENGES: DEFORESTATION AND BIODIVERSITY LOSS, THE CLIMATE CRISIS, BROKEN FOOD SYSTEMS, UNSUSTAINABLE SUPPLY AND VALUE CHAINS, AND INEQUITY FOR WOMEN, INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND VULNERABLE RURAL COMMUNITIES. ACHIEVEMENTS INCLUDE INFORMING NATIONAL POLICIES IN PERU AND VIET NAM, APPLYING NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONGO BASIN AND INDIA, AND CO-CREATING SOLUTIONS WITH PARTNERS AND COMMUNITIES IN INDONESIA AND CAMEROON.THE CGIAR RESEARCH PROGRAM ON FORESTS, TREES AND AGROFORESTRY (FTA), LED BY CIFOR, WRAPPED UP 10 YEARS OF IMPACT, WITH CONTRIBUTIONS RESULTING IN HECTARES OF FORESTS UNDER RESTORATION AND BETTER PROTECTION - AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WITH IMPROVED FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION AND THE MEANS TO EXIT POVERTY.CIFOR IS ENGAGED IN TWO OTHER CGIAR PROGRAMS - IN THE IFPRI LED POLICIES, INSTITUTIONS, AND MARKETS AND THE CIAT-LED PROGRAM ON CLIMATE CHANGE, AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY.
IN 2021, RESEARCH SUPPORT UNITS SUPPORTED CIFOR'S RESEARCH PROGRAMMES BY PROVIDING STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNICAL SERVICES, LIBRARY FACILITIES, COMPUTER SERVICES, SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT, AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS.
IN 2021, CIFOR SCIENTISTS BASED AROUND THE WORLD PRODUCED A TOTAL OF 441 PUBLICATIONS, OF WHICH 87% ARE OPEN ACCESS. THE PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE 47 BOOKS, 72 BRIEFS, 26 CHAPTERS, 42 OCCASIONAL AND WORKING PAPERS, 198 JOURNAL ARTICLES AND 58 OTHERS. OUR PUBLICATIONS WERE DOWNLOADED NEARLY 2.5 MILLION TIMES, WITH OVER 50,000 CITATIONS AND 512,000 GOOGLE BOOK VISITS.THE GLOBAL LANDSCAPES FORUM (GLF) HAS REACHED 1.5 BILLION PEOPLE, DRAWING RECORD NUMBERS OF PEOPLE TO THE HYBRID GLF CLIMATE CONFERENCE AND OTHER PIVOTAL EVENTS.
