LACBC ORGANIZED CAMPAIGNS FOR A MORE LIVABLE LOS ANGELES THROUGH BIKING. THE ORGANIZATION IS INVOLVED IN POLICY WORK IN VARIOUS REGIONAL CITIES THROUGH OUR CHAPTER SYSTEM AND OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BIKE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.
THE LACBC BIKE MATCH PROGRAM CONNECTED ESSENTIAL WORKERS WITH DONATED BICYCLES THROUGH BOTH A ONE-TO-ONE PROGRAM, WHERE INDIVIDUAL DONORS HANDED OFF BIKES TO INDIVIDUAL RECIPIENTS, AND A ONE-TO-MANY PROGRAM, WHERE LACBC HIRED MECHANICS TO ASSEMBLE NEW BICYCLES AND FIX UP USED BICYCLES TO DISTRIBUTE TO PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS WITH DEMONSTRATED NEED. THIS PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 100 BICYCLES TO MEMBERS OF THE GREATER LA COMMUNITY DURING 2020 AND 2021. ADDITIONALLY, WE LAUNCHED THE E-BIKE ENCOURAGEMENT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES PILOT PROGRAM THAT WILL PROVIDE E-BIKES ON 6-MONTH LOANS TO SMALL BUSINESSES AND INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO REPLACE PRIVATE AUTOMOBILE TRIPS WITH E-BIKE TRIPS, REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS AND CREATING A SAFER ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE PROGRAM GOT UNDERWAY IN ITS ORGANIZING PHASE WITH THE FIRST COHORT OF BIKES TO BE DEPLOYED IN 2022.
THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS TO TEACH INDIVIDUALS HOW TO FIX THEIR BIKES. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS CLASSES TO TEACH BEGINNER BICYCLE SAFETY EDUCATION THROUGH MORE ADVANCED ROAD RIDING BEST PRACTICES. THE ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH LAUSD TO PROVIDE BIKE CLUBS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT AND GET INVOLVED WITH CYCLING FROM A YOUNG AGE.
