IN 2021 THE LAND TRUST CONTINUED TO ADJUST TO IMPACTS OF THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC BUT WERE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH SEVERAL MAJOR GOALS. THE LAND TRUST CONTINUED TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER REMOTE NATURE EDUCATION CLASSES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND OTHER YOUTH GROUPS. THE LAND TRUST WAS REPRESENTED AT DOZENS OF PUBLIC MEETINGS OF STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES ADVOCATING FOR ISSUES SUCH AS PUBLIC ACCESS AND PROMOTION OF NATIVE WILDLIFE HABITAT. {NOTE: ADDITIONAL PUBLIC ACCESS WAS OPENED IN JANUARY OF 2022 AS THE DIRECT RESULT OF STAKEHOLDER EFFORTS). THE LAND TRUST SUCCESSFULLY LITIGATED THREE PUBLIC INTEREST ISSUES IN 2021: 1) OBTAINING A PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION AGAINST THE CUTTING DOWN OF MATURE TREES WHICH WERE KNOWN TO SUPPORT NATIVE BARN OWLS AND OTHER NATIVE BIRDS, FOLLOWED BY A SETTLEMENT OF THAT CASE; 2) A SETTLEMENT WITH THE SANTA MONICA BAY RESTORATION FOUNDATION (DBA THE BAY FOUNDATION) IN WHICH THEY AGREED TO HOLD OPEN MEETINGS OF THEIR BOARD OF DIRECTORS; AND 3) A FAVORABLE RULING FINDING THAT THE MARINA DEL REY CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU IS SUBJECT TO THE BROWN ACT AND REQUIRED TO HOLD OPEN MEETINGS.
