WORKFORCE AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: IDEPSCA OPERATES FIVE DAY LABOR RESOURCE CENTERS LOCATED IN WILMINGTON, HOLLYWOOD, CYPRESS PARK, FASHION DISTRICT DOWNTOWN LA, AND VAN NUYS, SERVING AS WORKFORCE AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT HUBS FOR DAY LABORERS, HOUSEHOLD WORKERS & THEIR FAMILIES UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES. ANNUALLY, ABOUT 1,000 REGISTERED MEMBERS ARE REGISTERED AND CONNECTED TO THOUSANDS OF SHORT AND LONG TERM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. WORKERS ALSO RECEIVE ACCESS TO WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING INCLUDING OSHA, EPA AND WELDING CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES ONSITE FOR ESL PROGRAMS, REFERRALS FOR HOUSING, IMMIGRATION SUPPORT, AND SUPPORT THROUGH WAGE CLAIMS. DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS THESE CENTERS HAVE ALSO BECOME HUBS FOR COMMUNITY FOOD, FINANCIAL AND PPE ACCESS.


WORKERS HEALTH PROGRAM: ACCESS TO HEALTH THROUGH DIRECT SERVICES AT OUR WORKER CENTERS AND REFERRALS. THE HEALTH PROGRAM SERVES HUNDREDS OF WORKERS ANNUALLY. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR THESE SERVICES HAVE INCLUDED A FREE ANNUAL FLU VACCINE CLINIC DONE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH. THE HEALTH PROGRAM HAS CONTINUED TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO DAY LABORERS AND DOMESTIC WORKERS IMPACTED BY THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES, INCLUDING PROVISIONING OF PPE AND TRAINING. THE PROGRAM EXPANDED THIS SUPPORT TO INCLUDE FOOD AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO WORKERS IMPACTED BY THE COVID PANDEMIC AS WELL AS COORDINATING MULTIPLE COVID VACCINE CLINICS AT ONE OF OUR DAY LABOR CENTERS.


MUJERES EN ACCION IS OUR HOUSEHOLD WORKER EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOCUSING ON CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND RIGHTS EDUCATION. DURING COVID THE PROGRAM HAS FOCUSED ON VIRTUAL TRAININGS IN THE AREA OF GREEN CLEANING, WORKER RIGHTS AS WELL AS PROVIDING DIRECT FINANCIAL AND FOOD SUPPORT. THE PROGRAM REACHES APPROXIMATELY 318 INDIVIDUALS PER YEAR. DURING THIS TIME WE HAVE UPDATED OUR MUJERES EN ACCION PROGRAMMING TO REFLECT ADDITIONAL WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM GIVEN THE SAFER AT HOME DIRECTIVES. WE HAVE ALSO DISTRIBUTED FRESH PRODUCE, HYGIENE PRODUCTS, FACE MASKS FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN, MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS AND CASH ASSISTANCE TO OVER 300 DOMESTIC WORKERS.
