COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT CENTERS (CECS):ESTABLISHED IN 2001 MAGIC JOHNSON FOUNDATION COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT CENTERS (CECS) ARE THE BRICK AND MORTAR ASPECT OF PROGRAMMING FOR MJF. ORIGINALLY CREATED AS A SOLUTION TO BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE CECS NOW FUNCTION AS COMPREHENSIVE ONE STOP SERVICE CENTERS THAT ADDRESS THE EDUCATIONAL AND EMPOWERMENT NEEDS OF THE ENTIRE FAMILY. IN ADDITION TO TECHNOLOGY HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, CECS ALSO PROVIDE ACCESS TO PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE LITERACY (READING, FINANCIAL & HEALTH), ENTREPRENEURSHIP, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING. MJF CURRENTLY HAS 11 FULLY EQUIPPED STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY CENTERS (8 IN URBAN MARKETS AND 3 IN THE RURAL COMMUNITIES OF SOUTH CAROLINA. OUR CECS ARE MOVING FROM THE DEPENDENCIES OF PLACE-BASED PROGRAM AND ARE LEVERAGING WEB BASED PROGRAMS AND CONTENT TO MEET PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE. MJF IS COMMITTED TO HARNESSING THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY TO EDUCATE AND EMPOWER. TO DATE WE HAVE SERVED OVER 250,000 UNDUPLICATED USERS AND AWARDED OVER $6 MILLION DOLLARS IN HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS.
TAYLOR MICHAELS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (TMSP):THE TAYLOR MICHAELS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (TMSP), FOUNDED IN 1998, IS APTLY NAMED AFTER TAYLOR MICHAELS, THE INSPIRING CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER FOR MAGIC JOHNSON ENTERPRISES WHO PASSED AWAY EARLIER THAT YEAR. THROUGHOUT HER LIFE, TAYLOR DISPLAYED AN INTENSE PASSION AND COMMITMENT TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT. MJF TMSP PROVIDES MUCH MORE THAN A "CASH AND DASH" APPROACH. WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON A WRAPAROUND APPROACH THAT PROVIDES OUR SCHOLARS WITH SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR COLLEGE, PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIVES. OVER 525 MINORITY YOUTH HAVE BEEN SERVED AS PART OF TAYLOR'S LEGACY. MJF HAS PROVIDED OVER $3.8M IN TUITION AWARDS AND ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES THAT INCLUDE MENTORING, INTERNSHIPS AND LIFE SKILLS CONFERENCES AND EMPOWERMENT WEBINARS TO OUR SCHOLARS.
MJF SOCIAL EFFORTS:MJF SOCIAL EFFORTS ARE TO PROVIDE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE LIFE BEYOND THEIR GEOGRAPHY AND FINANCIAL LIMITATIONS. SOCIAL EFFORTS ARE MJF'S RESPONSE TO BE OUR "BROTHER'S KEEPER". THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY IS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL, HEALTH OR OTHER CRISIS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. MJF HAS ALSO ADDED HOLIDAY HOPE TO OUR ROSTER OF SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. HOSTED IN MICHIGAN, HOLIDAY HOPE DELIVERS MUCH NEEDED FOOD AND PERSONAL EFFECTS TO FAMILIES IN TIME FOR THE SEASON.IN ADDITION TO HOLIDAY PARTIES, MJF CONTINUES TO PROVIDE YOUTH ACCESS TO SPORTING EVENTS AND OUTINGS SUCH AS PROFESSIONAL BALL GAMES, AMUSEMENT PARKS AND CONCERTS. TO DATE OUR COMBINED SOCIAL EFFORTS HAVE IMPACTED OVER 60K DISADVANTAGED YOUTH AND SERVED OVER 11,000 FAMILIES.
HIV/AIDS INITIATIVES:ESTABLISHED IN 1991, HIV/AIDS IS THE FOUNDING THE PRINCIPLE OF THE MAGIC JOHNSON FOUNDATION. WE HAVE MOVED FROM BEING PRIMARILY A GRANT MAKING ORGANIZATION TO BEING A PROACTIVE CHAMPION IN THE FIGHT TO RAISE AWARENESS AND BRING AN END TO THE EPIDEMIC IN COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH SOME OF THE MOST RESPECTED AUTHORITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS IN THE COUNTRY TO EDUCATE HIGH RISK INDIVIDUALS.SINCE THE PROGRAM LAUNCHED WE HAVE AWARDED OVER $14 MILLION IN GRANTS AND TESTED OVER 40K ADULTS IDENTIFYING POSITIVE RESULTS FOR OVER 1,000 TESTERS. MJF HIV/AIDS EFFORTS HAVE MOBILIZED OVER 89K INDIVIDUALS WITH THE "I STAND WITH MAGIC" ONLINE CAMPAIGN FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS AND PROVIDED EDUCATION TO OVER 282,000 PEOPLE (INCLUDING TEEN SUMMITS) ABOUT HIV AND RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DISEASE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HIV TESTING.
