PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OUTREACH - WE SERVE AS A FORUM FOR THE STUDY AND CREATION OF HUMANITY'S WELLBEING. THROUGH PUBLICATIONS, LECTURE, AND ACTIVISM, WE ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AND HELP PROVIDE AND PROTECT A PEACEFUL FUTURE FOR ALL. * SPEECH AND SPIRIT - A PROGRAM WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER LITERARY STUDIES, BLACK AND INDIGENOUS PERFORMANCE ART, AND THE PURSUIT OF COLLECTIVE ENERGY TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE POLITICAL AND ECOLOGICAL CONSCIOUSNESS ACROSS GENERATIONS. THE FIRST PRESENTATION OF SPEECH AND SPIRIT WAS HELD IN DECEMBER, 2021 ON ZOOM. * SADAKO PEACE DAY - WE HELD OUR 27TH SADAKO PEACE DAY ON AUGUST 6, 2021 TO COMMEMORATE THE VICTIMS OF THE BOMBINGS OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI AND ALL INNOCENT VICTIMS OF WAR. IT WAS THE FIRST IN-PERSON EVENT WE HELD SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN. APPROXIMATELY 100 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE LIVE EVENT WHICH INCLUDED MUSIC, POETRY AND TIME FOR REFLECTION. * PEACE IS MORE THAN THE ABSENCE OF WAR - WE HELD AN ONLINE CONVERSATION COVERING THE PATH FROM IDEAS TO ACTION, THE IMPORTANCE OF UTOPIAN THINKING IN AN AGE OF TECHNOLOGICAL DANGER, THE CALLING OF A 'CITIZEN PILGRIM', AND THE FUTURE OF THE NUCLEAR AGE PEACE FOUNDATION. APPROXIMATELY 150 PEOPLE ATTENDED VIA ZOOM. * SOCIAL MEDIA, ACTION NETWORK, WEBSITES - OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, INCLUDING FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM REACH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY WITH MESSAGING THAT INFORMS AND ENGAGES THE PUBLIC ON BOTH CONTEMPORARY AND HISTORICAL ISSUES OF THE NUCLEAR AGE, INCLUDING ISSUES OF PEACE AND HUMANITY'S FLOURISHING. OUR ACTION NETWORK EMAILS AND OUR WEBSITES (WAGINGPEACE.ORG, NUCLEARFILES.ORG, AND PEACECONTESTS.ORG) REACH THOUSANDS OF MEMBERS AS WELL AS NON-MEMBERS AND ARE USED AS EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES THROUGHOUT BOTH IN THE US AND INTERNATIONALLY.
NUCLEAR ZERO POLICY AND ADVOCACY:WE ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN NETWORKS AND WORKING GROUPS THAT ARE COMMITTED TO ACHIEVING THE ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE US AND BEYOND. OUR STAFF WORKS LOCALLY, NATIONALLY, AND INTERNATIONALLY WITH MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO ABOLISH NUCLEAR WEAPONS (ICAN), BACK FROM THE BRINK, (BFTB) AND PHYSICIANS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (PSR) TO NAME JUST A FEW PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, TO PROMOTE THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND ESPECIALLY THE POSITIVE OBLIGATIONS OF THE TREATY. WHILE TRAVEL TO MEETINGS IN D.C. AND IN EUROPE WAS NOT POSSIBLE THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS ON TRAVEL, OUR STAFF ATTENDED COUNTLESS ZOOM MEETINGS WITH OTHERS WORKING TOWARD THE SAME GOALS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
YOUTH ACTIVISM:REVERSE THE TREND: SAVE OUR PLANET. SAVE OUR PEOPLE (RTT) AMPLIFIES THE VOICES OF YOUNG PEOPLE PRIMARILY FROM FRONTLINE COMMUNITIES WHO HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY NUCLEAR WEAPONS TESTING AND CLIMATE CHANGE. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE HOSTED NUMEROUS ZOOM MEETINGS THAT REACHED HUNDREDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE US, CANADA, AND INTERNATIONALLY, PROVIDING AN EDUCATIONAL FORUM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO ENGAGE IN THE ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEIR FAMILIES, FRIENDS AND COMMUNITIES. REVERSE THE TREND IS ALSO WORKING CLOSELY WITH KIRIBATI AND KAZAKHSTAN ON ARTICLES 6 AND 7 OF THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS (TPNW) WHICH PROVIDE A FRAMEWORK OF ASSISTANCE FOR ADDRESSING THE ONGOING HUMANITARIAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE PAST USE AND TESTING OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
