IN LONG BEACH OPERAS FY 21 SEASON, THE COMPANY PRESENTED A DIGITAL FUNDRAISER AND PROGRAM ENTITLED THE 2020 SONGBOOK AUDIENCE OF APPROXIMATELY 500, A NEW OPERATIC WEB SERIES CALLED DESERT IN AUDIENCE OF OVER 1,000, AND ONE OF THE FIRST POST-PANDEMIC LIVE PERFORMANCES ENTITLED LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES BY PHILLIP GLASS AUDIENCE OF APPROXIMATELY 1,000. LONG BEACH OPERA ALSO ANNOUNCED THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JAMES DARRAH, ONLY THE THIRD IN THE COMPANYS HISTORY.
OPERA ENCOUNTER IS LBOS EDUCATION INITIATIVE. IT INCLUDES OPERA PERFORMANCES IN SCHOOLS AND DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO STUDENTS AND LOW INCOME FAMILIES FOR DRESS REHEARSALS. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES SERVING 10 SCHOOLS AND APPROXIMATELY 1500 STUDENTS PER YEAR.
