STUDENT PROGRAMS - APPROXIMATELY 20 VOLUNTEER STUDENT LEADERS PARTICIPATED IN VARIOUS COMMITTEES, SUCH AS THE STUDENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EXCOMM), Y-OUTDOORS, SOCIAL ACTIVISM SPEAKER SERIES, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEES TO HELP PLAN AND IMPLEMENT APPROXIMATELY 70 PROGRAMS DURING THE 2022-2023 ACADEMIC YEAR, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMMING WAS THE LARGEST CATEGORY AND INCLUDED THE RISE TUTORING PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE PASADENA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, MAKE-A-DIFFERENCE DAY VOLUNTEER EVENT WITH 9 LOCAL NON-PROFITS, THE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND ADVOCACY FAIR, AND THE UNION STATION ADOPT-A-MEAL PROGRAM. THE CALTECH Y ALSO PROVIDED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE YOUTH OF PROMISE PROGRAM WITH THE FLINTRIDGE CENTER, THE YOUNG LEGENDS PROGRAM, AND AN OUTREACH EVENT FOR A LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IN ADDITION, THE CALTECH Y WAS ABLE TO EXPAND THE RISE TUTORING PROGRAM TO LAUNCH AN ONLINE TUTORING COMPONENT CALLED Y-TUTOR FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE RISE PROGRAM AS WELL AS STEAM SUMMER EXPERIENCE PROGRAM FOR 3RD-6TH GRADE STUDENTS. THERE WERE 273 COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS, WHICH INCLUDED 36 ALUMS WHO VOLUNTEERED AS TUTORS FOR THE Y-TUTOR PROGRAM.OUTDOOR EVENTS CONSISTED OF AN ON-CAMPUS ADVENTURE 101 TALK ON GREATER HIKES IN THE LA AREA, 2 CAMPING TRIPS TO STATE PARKS, AND 4 DAY HIKES AND TRIPS.CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS INCLUDED FIRST AID BASICS, AN ORIGAMI WORKSHOP, AND 2 FILM SCREENINGS AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE FILMMAKERS: WHO KILLED VINCENT CHIN WITH PRODUCER, RENEE TAJIMA-PEA AND CAN WE ALL GET ALONG WITH DIRECTOR, PABLO MIRALLES. IN ADDITION, THE CALTECH Y HOSTED 10 DIFFERENT SPEAKERS ON VARIOUS TOPICS RANGING FROM GENERATIVE AI TO THE GENDER GAP IN MATHEMATICS TO SOCIAL JUSTICE AND STEM FIELDS.
