THIS TEMPORARY "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" PROVIDES HOUSING, MEALS, TRANSPORTATION, AND OTHER SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES WHO MUST TRAVEL TO LAS VEGAS TO SEEK CRITICAL MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THEIR CHILDREN. RMHC ALSO OPERATES A RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM RIGHT ON THE GROUNDS OF SUNRISE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, OFFERING FREE MEALS, A COMFORTABLE LOUNGE, HOT SHOWERS, SLEEPING AND NAPPING ACCOMMODATIONS, AND COMPUTER ACCESS TO FAMILY MEMBERS WITH INFANTS IN THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT. RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (RMH) KEEPS FAMILIES CLOSE WHEN THEY NEED IT MOST BY PROVIDING A TEMPORARY "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" FOR FAMILIES WHO MUST TRAVEL TO LAS VEGAS TO RECEIVE CRITICAL MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THE HOUSE ACCOMMODATES UP TO 12 FAMILIES, OR 72 FAMILY MEMBERS, AT ONE TIME. FAMILIES HAVE THEIR OWN BEDROOM SUITES WITH PRIVATE BATHROOMS, PLAY AREAS FOR THE CHILDREN, AN ADULT RESPITE ROOM, A FULLY-STOCKED PANTRY AND LAUNDRY FACILITY, LOUNGE AREAS, AND BACKYARD WITH PLAYGROUND. THE HOUSE PROVIDES HOME-COOKED DINNERS, HEALTHY SNACKS, AND RIDES TO THE HOSPITAL EVERY DAY, AT NO COST TO THE FAMILIES. IN 2023, THE HOUSE SERVED 285 FAMILIES, INCLUDING 352 ADULTS AND 160 CHILDREN FOR A TOTAL OF 3,521 NIGHTS. THE HOUSE SAVED FAMILIES 673,532 IN LODGING COSTS BASED ON THE 2023 AVERAGE NIGHTLY LODGING RATES IN LAS VEGAS.
RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM RMHC ALSO PROVIDES A TEMPORARY "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" AT THE RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM ON THE GROUNDS OF SUNRISE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN LAS VEGAS. THE FAMILY ROOM IS APPROXIMATELY 1,400 SQUARE FEET AND IS LOCATED DIRECTLY DOWN THE HALL FROM THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU), KEEPING FAMILIES CLOSER THAN EVER TO THEIR HOSPITALIZED BABIES. THE FAMILY ROOM OFFERS A PEACEFUL HOME-LIKE ENVIRONMENT WHERE FAMILY MEMBERS CAN TAKE SHORT BREAKS AWAY FROM THE OFTEN TENSE AND CHAOTIC MEDICAL SETTING, YET REMAIN STEPS AWAY FROM THEIR BABY'S BEDSIDE. THE FAMILY ROOM OFFERS OVERNIGHT SLEEPING AND DAYTIME NAPPING ROOMS, TOILETRIES, SHOWERS, LOCKERS, A COMFORTABLE LOUNGE AREA WITH SOFAS, RECLINERS, TV, CHILDREN'S GAMES AND BOOKS, A KITCHENETTE, DINING AREA, AND COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS. COFFEE, TEA, AND COLD BEVERAGES, ALONG WITH SINGLE-SERVE MEALS AND SNACKS ARE AVAILABLE AT NO COST TO OUR FAMILIES, AS WELL AS OUR HEALTHY SACK LUNCHES DAILY. IN 2023, THE RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM PROVIDED A PLACE OF RESPITE TO 4,885 FAMILY MEMBERS.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES SCHOLARSHIPS RMHC AWARDS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND CONTINUING COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM CLARK AND NYE COUNTIES WHO DEMONSTRATE STRONG COMMUNITY SERVICE, LEADERSHIP, AND ACADEMIC SKILLS, AND WHO MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE HAVE THE FINANCIAL MEANS TO AFFORD A HIGHER EDUCATION. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE FUNDED, IN PART, BY PROCEEDS GENERATED THROUGH THE SALE OF HAPPY MEALS AT OUR LOCAL MCDONALD'S RESTAURANTS, AND THROUGH DONATIONS MADE BY SEVERAL OTHER NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY PARTNERS. SIXTY-FOUR (64) HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES AND RETURNING COLLEGE STUDENTS WERE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2023.
RONALD MCDONALD CARE MOBILE IN AN EFFORT TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO DENTAL CARE FOR UNDERSERVED CHILDREN IN RURAL NEVADA AND INNER-CITY LAS VEGAS, RMHC OF GREATER LAS VEGAS, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NEVADA HEALTH CENTERS, OPERATES A RONALD MCDONALD CARE MOBILE PROGRAM. THIS MOBILE DENTAL OFFICE ON WHEELS DELIVERS CARE DIRECTLY TO CHILDREN IN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS. THE CARE MOBILE MAKES SCHEDULED VISITS TO COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, COLLABORATING NON-PROFIT PARTNER SITES, MCDONALD'S RESTAURANTS SITES, AND REMOTE FRONTIER COMMUNITIES. IN 2023, MORE THAN 1,221 CHILDREN WERE TREATED ABOARD THE RONALD MCDONALD CARE MOBILE DENTAL VAN.
