Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE GOLDMAN ENVIRONMENTAL FOUNDATION PRIMARILY ADMINISTERS THE GOLDMAN ENVIRONMENTAL PRIZE, WHICH RECOGNIZES INDIVIDUALS FOR SUSTAINED AND SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS TO PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, OFTEN AT GREAT PERSONAL RISK (WITH APPROXIMATELY 6 PRIZES AWARDED ANNUALLY TO REGIONS AROUND THE WORLD). THE GOLDMAN PRIZE VIEWS "GRASSROOTS" LEADERS AS THOSE INVOLVED IN LOCAL EFFORTS, WHERE POSITIVE CHANGE IS CREATED THROUGH COMMUNITY OR CITIZEN PARTICIPATION. THROUGH RECOGNIZING THESE INDIVIDUAL LEADERS, THE GOLDMAN FOUNDATION SEEKS TO INSPIRE ORDINARY PEOPLE TO TAKE EXTRAORDINARY ACTIONS TO PROTECT THE NATURAL WORLD.
IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO CURRENT AND FORMER PRIZE WINNERS, ESPECIALLY AROUND ONGOING DEFENSE CHALLENGES AND IN FURTHERING THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL WORK AND INFLUENCE.
