ADVOCACY SUPPORT - DURING THE 2021-22 FISCAL YEAR, CANHR STAFF RESPONDED TO THOUSANDS OF INQUIRIES AND REQUESTS FOR SERVICES FROM LEGAL SERVICES, SOCIAL WORKERS, LONG TERM CARE PROFESSIONALS, ATTORNEYS AND CONSUMERS VIA CANHRS CONSUMER HOTLINE AND THE CANHR WEBSITE FEEDBACK SYSTEM, PROVIDING COUNSELING, INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE WITH MEDI-CAL, ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE AND RESIDENT RIGHTS ISSUES. DURING 21-22 CANHR STAFF PARTICIPATED IN 22 PRESENTATIONS AND OUTREACH EVENTS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS, FAMILY COUNCILS, SOCIAL WORKERS, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, GOVERNMENT AGENCY STAFF AND OTHER ADVOCATES AND POLICY MAKERS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. TOPICS INCLUDED MEDI-CAL ELIGIBILITY, HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES, EVICTION PROTECTION, INCAPACITY ISSUES, ESTATE RECOVERY, NURSING HOME AND RESIDENTIAL CARE RIGHTS, ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE, AND VISITATION RIGHTS DURING COVID, AMONG OTHERS. CANHR HOSTED 5 VIRTUAL TOWNHALLS FOR CONSUMERS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF LONG TERM CARE RESIDENTS ON VISITATION RIGHTS DURING COVID, MEDI-CAL ELIGIBILITY AND HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES, WITH OVER 800 CONSUMERS ATTENDING FROM ACROSS CALIFORNIA. CANHRS HOMELESS PREVENTION PROJECT, FUNDED BY THE STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA, PROVIDED COUNSELING AND REPRESENTATION ON LONG TERM CARE TRANSFER AND EVICTION RIGHTS TO CONSUMERS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA AND RESULTED IN SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES, WITH RESIDENTS BEING ABLE TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES. IN 2020, CANHR CREATED A SPECIAL COVID-19 NEWS AND RESOURCES SITE FOR CONSUMERS, ADVOCATES AND LEGAL SERVICES STAFF SPECIFICALLY FOR COVID-19 INFORMATION, NEWS AND RESOURCES RELATED TO LONG TERM CARE AT HTTPS://CANHRNEWS.COM. DURING THE CRISIS THAT WEBSITE HAS GROWN TO OVER 1,300 PAGES. FROM JULY 1, 2021 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2022 THE SITE HAS HAD 25,549 VISITORS (54,340 PAGE VIEWS), 88.8% OF WHOM WERE NEW VISITORS. THE MOST POPULAR PAGES THERE ARE THE ALL FACILITIES LETTERS AND VISITATION GUIDELINES ALERTS. CANHR PRESENTED ELEVEN EDUCATION WORKSHOPS FOR OVER 384 SOCIAL WORKERS AND DISCHARGE PLANNERS AS WELL AS NINE (9) WEBINAR TRAINING SESSIONS FOR CALIFORNIA LEGAL SERVICES STAFF. CANHRS ANNUAL TWO-DAY ELDER LAW CONFERENCE FOR PRIVATE BAR AND LEGAL SERVICES ATTORNEYS WAS HELD VIA ZOOM IN APRIL 2022, AND CANHR PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO 57 LEGAL SERVICES STAFF MEMBERS. CANHRS MAIN WEB SITE, WWW.CANHR.ORG RECEIVED 251,777 VISITORS OVER THIS FISCAL YEAR (620,233 PAGE VIEWS), 86% OF WHOM WERE NEW VISITORS. THE MOST FREQUENTLY VISITED PAGES WERE THE MED-CAL OVERVIEW FACT SHEET, THE IN HOME SUPPORT SERVICES FACT SHEET, AND VARIOUS FACT SHEET LISTINGS PAGES. A WEBSITE FEEDBACK FORM ALLOWS CONSUMERS TO SUBMIT QUESTIONS ONLINE AND RECEIVE ANSWERS BY EMAIL ON RESIDENT AND CONSUMER RIGHTS, LEGAL SERVICES SUPPORT AND REFERRALS THROUGH CANHRS LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE. ALL OF THE CONSUMER FACT SHEETS CAN BE DOWNLOADED, AND MANY ARE AVAILABLE IN SPANISH, CHINESE, KOREAN, VIETNAMESE AND JAPANESE. CANHR DEVELOPED A NEW CONSUMER EDUCATION FACT SHEET TITLED CALIFORNIA MEDI-CAL ASSET LIMIT INCREASING FOR SENIORS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, WHICH WAS TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH. IN ADDITION, THE AGENCY TRANSLATED UPDATED CONSUMER EDUCATION MATERIALS INTO KOREAN, CHINESE, VIETNAMESE AND JAPANESE. THESE MATERIALS WERE MADE AVAILABLE ON CANHRS WEBSITE FOR DOWNLOAD.
CANHR'S LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE IS THE ONLY STATEWIDE, STATE BAR CERTIFIED LRS IN CALIFORNIA THAT SPECIALIZES IN LONG TERM CARE ISSUES. CANHR'S LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE OFFERS FREE, LOW FEE AND REGULAR FEE REFERRALS TO CURRENT AND POTENTIAL RESIDENTS OF LONG- TERM CARE FACILITIES AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND PROVIDES ACCESS TO LEGAL REPRESENTATION IN SUCH AREAS AS ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE, ESTATE PLANNING, PROTECTIVE SERVICES AND RESIDENTS' RIGHTS. THE LRS CURRENTLY HAS 97 PARTICIPATING ATTORNEYS ON NINE SPECIALIZED PANELS, ALL OF WHOM AGREE TO ACCEPT AT LEAST TWO PRO BONO AND TWO REDUCED FEE CASES PER YEAR. CANHR RECEIVES 15% OF ATTORNEYS FEES TO SUPPORT ITS ADVOCACY WORK. IN 2021-22 THE LRS REFERRED 459 CLIENTS TO PANEL ATTORNEYS IN CALIFORNIA, AND ASSISTED HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH VARIOUS LEGAL AND CONSUMER PROBLEMS.
