TO CHAMPION EQUITABLE PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND OUR COMMUNITY. THROUGH GRANTS AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS, WE CENTER EQUITY FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR STUDENTS AND THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

THE SCHOOLS FUND PROVIDES FISCAL SPONSORSHIP SERVICES INCLUDING MANAGEMENT, ADMINISTRATIVE AND ADVISORY SERVICES FOR SPECIAL FUNDS ESTABLISHED BY INDIVIDUALS OR BUSINESSES AND HELD BY THE SCHOOLS FUND TO BE USED FOR SPECIFIC PROGRAMS. FUNDS SUPPORT LARGE PROJECTS, SUCH AS A PARTNERSHIP WITH BAYER HEALTHCARE FOR K-8 SCIENCE EDUCATION; STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS, COMMUNITY-SPONSORED SCHOOL PROJECTS AND CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS.
THE BERKELEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FUNDS LARGEST PROGRAM EXPENDITURE IS FOR GRANTS TO SUPPORT TEACHING AND STUDENT LEARNING IN BERKELEYS 19 PUBLIC SCHOOLS, SERVING OVER 9,500 STUDENTS. THE SCHOOLS FUND AWARDS GRANTS FOR PROJECTS THAT HELP LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD FOR OUR STUDENTS, IN THE AREAS OF DIGITAL EQUITY, POSITIVE RACIAL IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT, FOCUSED ACADEMIC SUPPORT, EQUITABLE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, INCLUSIVE AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT INSTRUCTION AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS. DURING THE PANDEMIC, THE SCHOOLS FUND REMOVED OBSTACLES TO DISTANCE LEARNING BY DISTRIBUTING COMPUTERS AND OTHER ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES AND ASSISTING FAMILIES WITH BASIC NEEDS THROUGH FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND VOLUNTEERS. THE SCHOOLS FUND ALSO ASSISTED THE DISTRICT WITH PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING A MORE ROBUST SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN THE SUMMER OF 2021 THROUGH CONTRACTING OUT ONE OF ITS EMPLOYEES.
THE BERKELEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FUND MANAGES BERKELEY SCHOOLS VOLUNTEERS, THE LARGEST VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN THE BERKELEY SCHOOLS. THE PROGRAM RECRUITS, TRAINS AND PLACES OVER A THOUSAND COMMUNITY MEMBERS EACH YEAR IN CLASSROOMS, LIBRARIES, GARDENS, PLAYGROUNDS AND AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT TEACHERS, STAFF AND STUDENTS. DURING THE PANDEMIC, THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM MORE THAN TRIPLED IN SIZE, ENGAGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN A RANGE OF SERVICES INCLUDING TECH SUPPORT, FOOD DELIVERY, TRANSLATION AND MENTORING. THIS EXPANDED ROLE OF BERKELEY SCHOOLS VOLUNTEERS WILL CONTINUE AFTER THE PANDEMIC. THE SCHOOLS FUND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINGERPRINTING VOLUNTEERS. REVENUE FROM THESE SERVICES IS LISTED ABOVE.
