THE SIERRA 2 CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND COMMUNITY IS A CHARMING AND ALUSIAN/SPANISH REVIVAL STYLE STUCCO BUILDING BUILT IN 1923 AS AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THIS HISTORIC SITE WAS SAVED FROM DEMOLITION BY THE SIERRA CURTIS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION (SCNA) IN 1979. IT NOW IS A NON-PROFIT CENTER FOR ARTISTIC, CULTURAL, AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THE 24TH ST. THEATER AND A VARIETY OF SCENIC MEETING ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC FOR RENTAL ON AN ANNUAL, DAILY, AND HOURLY BASIS.
THE SIERRA CURTIS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION SERVES OVER 2,500 HOUSEHOLD IN THE HISTORIC CURTIS PARK NEIGHBORHOOD. IT OFFERS AN ARRAY OF FAMILY EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, HOLDS REGULAR MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS TO DISCUSS ISSUES OF RELEVANCE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IT PUBLISHES VIEWPOINT, A NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSPAPER, AND MANAGES THE SIERRA 2 CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND COMMUNITY. IT GIVES THE SIERRA CURTIS NEIGHBORHOOD A COMMON VOICE, FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT, AND A COMMUNITY CENTER.
