NATIONAL FOREST HOMEOWNERS IS A MEMBER-DIRECTED ORGANIZATION REPRESENTING CABIN-OWNER RECREATION RESIDENCE PERMITTEES IN OUR NATIONAL FORESTS. NFH PROVIDES LEADERSHIP, MEMBER INFORMATION, ASSISTANCE AND ADVOCACY FOR THE CONTINUATION OF ALL RECREATIONAL RESIDENCES.

ESTABLISHED OVER 100 YEARS AGO IN 1915, THE NATIONAL FOREST CABIN PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE OLDEST PUBLIC RECREATION PROGRAMS IN OUR NATIONAL FORESTS. IN A UNIQUE PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP, PERMITEES OWN THESE SMALL CABINS IN THE WOODS, BUT THE GROUND BENEATH IS STILL PART OF THE NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM. THE REVENUE RECEIVED FROM ANNUAL PERMIT FEES GOES INTO THE US TREASURY AS FAIR VALUE FOR THE USE OF THE LAND.AS THE NATIONAL ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION FOR THE CABIN PROGRAM, NFH REPRESENTS THE INTERESTS OF CABIN OWNERS WITH RESPECT TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP AND INTERACTIONS WITH THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE.
IN 2022, NFH HELD TWO EDUCATIONAL EVENT, WITH A MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND SESSIONS ABOUT FIRE READINESS, FOREST SERVICE ISSUES, AS WELL AS PERMIT AND CABIN OWNERSHIP EDUCATION, AND A REGIONAL EVENT, IN BOISE IDAHO, TO FOCUS ON THE SPECIFIC ISSUES OF THAT AREA.
TO COMMUNICATE AND BUILD OUR MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS WITH ALL CABIN OWNERS IN THE RECREATION RESIDENCE PROGRAM. WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE USDA FOREST SERVICE WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CABIN FEE ACT. NFH IS ALSO LOOKING AT ACCESS-RELATED ISSUES, DROUGHT AND WATER CHALLENGES, LOCAL TAXATION, HISTORIC PRESERVATION OPPORTUNITIES AND ALWAYS, THE PRESERVATION OF OUR HERITAGE RECREATION PROGRAM. OUR EVENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS WILL INCLUDE TOPICS INCLUDING FOREST PLANNING, FIRE PREPARATION AND FUNDING, RECREATION INTERESTS AND NEWS FROM OUR CABINS ON NATIONAL FORESTS. THE NFH FORUMS AND CONFERENCES WILL FURTHER BUILD OUR COMMUNITY OF CABIN OWNERS, AS WELL AS OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH FOREST STAFF. WE WILL ALSO CONTINUE LOOKING OUT FOR POLICY AFFECTING OUR RECREATION VALUES AND SUSTAINABLE FOREST STEWARDSHIP.
