MUSIC IN SCHOOLS MIS THE MUSIC IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM SUPPORTS BETWEEN FIVE TO SEVEN UNDERSERVED ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT EACH SCHOOL YEAR, PRESENTING A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AT NO CHARGE TO THE SCHOOLS. THE GOAL OF THIS SUPPORT IS TO BUILD A HABIT OF MUSIC WITHIN THE SCHOOLS CURRICULUM AND THE STUDENTS LIVES. WE REACH MORE THAN 5,000 STUDENTS EACH YEAR, EITHER IN THE CLASSROOM, AT SCHOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLIES, OR REMOTELY THROUGH VIDEO PERFORMANCES. UNIQUE ARTISTS AND PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT EACH SCHOOL YEAR IN PERFORMANCES THAT INCLUDE CHAMBER OPERA, CLASSIC STORIES SET TO MUSIC, PARTICIPATORY DANCE AND MUSIC, INSTRUMENT GROUPS BRASS, WOODWIND, SOLOISTS, DIVERSE ETHNIC MUSIC AND INSTRUMENTS.
PUBLIC CONCERT SERIES LMCS MOST VISIBLE FACE IS ITS PUBLIC CONCERT SERIES THAT OFFERS UP TO 50 FREE CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERTS FROM OCTOBER THROUGH JUNE BY LMC MEMBER-MUSICIANS AND GUESTS. THE CLASSICAL MUSIC SERIES IS PRESENTED AND/OR FILMED AT A VARIETY OF VENUES THROUGHOUT THE SEATTLE METRO AREA, INCLUDING WEST SEATTLE VETERAN CENTER, SEATTLE ART MUSEUM, FRYE ART MUSEUM, SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY, CENTRAL AND WEST SEATTLE BRANCHES, UNIVERSITY HOUSE WALLINGFORD, MIRABELLA, BELLEVUES CROSSROADS COMMUNITY CENTER THEATER AND THE MUSIC CENTER OF THE NORTHWEST IN NORTH SEATTLE. THESE INTIMATE, ONE-HALF-HOUR TO ONE-HOUR MUSIC PROGRAMS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, AND MOST ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC ONLINE THROUGH LMCS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS.
THE FRANCES WALTON COMPETITION IS HELD ANNUALLY IN LATE SPRING AND ITS ASSOCIATED AWARDS TOUR IN THE FALL. IT IS A SOLO AND ENSEMBLE COMPETITION FOR CLASSICAL MUSICIANS, AGES 20-35, WHO LIVE OR STUDY IN THE UNITED STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, OR ONE OF THE U.S. TERRITORIES. COMPETITORS SUBMIT AUDIO AUDITIONS BEFORE A SPRING DEADLINE. AUDITION FINALISTS PARTICIPATE IN A DAY-LONG COMPETITION IN SEATTLE WHERE FOUR SOLO WINNERS AND ONE ENSEMBLE WINNER ARE SELECTED. THE WINNERS PRESENT A FREE PUBLIC CONCERT THE WEEKEND OF THE COMPETITION. THEY GO ON AN ALL-EXPENSE-PAID WEEK TOUR IN THE FALL, PERFORMING CLASSICAL MUSIC AT FREE CONCERTS TO THOUSANDS OF LISTENERS IN SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, AND HALLS IN LARGELY UNDERSERVED RURAL AND METRO AREAS IN WASHINGTON STATE. WINNERS RECEIVE CASH AWARDS AFTER THE FALL TOUR.
