Part 3 - Line 4a

THE RIVKIN CENTER'S SCIENTIFIC GRANT PROGRAM USES A SEED FUNDING APPROACH THAT LAUNCHES PROMISING NEW RESEARCH AND RESEARCHERS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. FOR THE 2023 FUNDING PERIOD, THE RIVKIN CENTER FULFILLED THE SECOND YEAR OF FUNDING FOR TWO SCHOLAR AWARDS BUT PAUSED NEW GRANTS FOR ONE YEAR TO HELP A BUDGET STILL RECOVERING FROM THE PANDEMIC. OVARIAN CANCER IS UNDERFUNDED BY FEDERAL FUNDING AGENCIES WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER CANCERS, DESPITE IT STILL HAVING NO UNIVERSAL SCREENING TOOL AND BEING THE DEADLIEST GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER. FOR EVERY DOLLAR INVESTED BY THE RIVKIN CENTER, OUR AWARDEES, ON AVERAGE, LEVERAGE ANOTHER $17.30 FROM OTHER FUNDING SOURCES TO FURTHER THEIR OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH.

THE RIVKIN CENTER EDUCATION TEAM IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING EQUITABLE ACCESS TO EDUCATION ABOUT OVARIAN AND BREAST CANCER. WE DO THIS WITH A TEAM OF MORE THAN 45 HEALTH INSTRUCTORS, CANCER SURVIVOR SPEAKERS AND CAMPUS AMBASSADORS WHO REFLECT DIFFERENT LIVED EXPERIENCES AND PERSPECTIVES. THEY SHARE THE LATEST SCIENCE IN AN EASY AND MEMORABLE WAY, DEVELOP NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND REACH NEW COMMUNITIES, AND DELIVER OUR WORKSHOPS VIRTUALLY AND IN PERSON. IN 2023, WE HELD 102 WORKSHOPS, REACHING 4,300 PEOPLE. NEARLY HALF OF OUR PROGRAMMING REACHES UNDERSERVED AND HIGH-RISK COMMUNITIES. THIS YEAR, WE RELEASED RESOURCES TAILORED FOR BLACK, LGBTQ+ AND ASHKENAZI JEWISH COMMUNITIES ABOUT OVARIAN AND BREAST CANCER. THESE WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH VARIOUS CHANNELS INCLUDING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, RIVKIN CENTER WORKSHOPS AND WEBSITE, AS WELL AS OUTREACH EVENTS LIKE TRANSPRIDE, THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER, AND DOPE CULTURE EVENTS. OUR WORKPLACE EDUCATION PROGRAM BROUGHT OUR WORKSHOPS TO ABOUT A DOZEN COMPANIES TO HELP THEM HAVE A HEALTHIER WORKFORCE. WE ALSO EXPANDED OUR CAMPUS EDUCATION PROGRAM, CREATING PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AND CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO. THE RIVKIN CENTER PROGRAM CONTINUES TO EMPOWER PEOPLE TO KNOW YOUR BODY AND BE THEIR OWN BEST ADVOCATE, SO THAT, IF NECESSARY, THEY ARE TREATED EARLIER AND HAVE BETTER OUTCOMES.
