PROMOTE THE HEALTHY SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, INTELLECTUAL, AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH BY ENHANCING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPATION IN SPORTS AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES.

THE FOUNDATION PARTICIPATES IN PROGRAMS MADE POSSIBLE BY GRANTS FROM THE NFL FOUNDATION, THE CORNERSTONE OF THE NFL'S COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY SERVICE. THE FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON PROJECTS IMPACTING PACIFIC NORTHWEST COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING RAISING AWARENESS FOR CANCER SCREENINGS, HONORING ACTIVE-DUTY AND RETIRED MILITARY, SUPPORTING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND PROVIDING RESOURCES FOR MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE HOMELESS AND OTHER SOCIAL JUSTICE CAUSES. THIS YEAR THE FOUNDATION INCREASED ITS COMMITMENT TO THE DIGITAL EQUITY INITIATIVE TO CLOSE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE IN WASHINGTON BY PROVIDING UNDERSERVED STUDENTS WITH ACCESS TO DEVICES, HARDWARE, HOT SPOTS, AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT.THE FOUNDATION PARTNERED WITH LIKE-MINDED ORGANIZATIONS TO SPONSOR A 2-DAY SUMMIT TO PROMOTE SOLIDARITY, CELEBRATE, AND ADVANCE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN SPORTS IN THE AREA. EXPANDING ITS INVESTMENT IN LOCAL YOUTH, THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THE YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT CENTER, A CENTER FOR SOUTH SEATTLE YOUTH WHO NEED A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE PLACE TO CALL HOME. THE CENTER, DESIGNED BY AND FOR SOUTH SEATTLE YOUTH, WILL PROVIDE RESOURCES SUCH AS HEALTH CARE, CHILDCARE, COUNSELING, AND TECHNOLOGY AND FINANCIAL EDUCATION IN ADDITION TO HOUSING.YOUTH FITNESS REMAINS A STRONG FOCUS OF THE FOUNDATION'S EFFORTS. PROJECTS THIS YEAR INCLUDED PROVIDING ATHLETIC TRAINERS TO LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS, AND REBUILDING AND RENOVATING FITNESS FACILITIES SUCH AS GYMS AND PLAYGROUNDS THAT WERE DESTROYED OR IN DISREPAIR. SPECIFIC SUPPORT FOR FOOTBALL INCLUDED HONORING LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL COACHES WITH GRANTS, PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, AND FUNDING LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS AND GRANT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR KIDS TO PLAY NFL FLAG FOOTBALL WITH THE OVERALL GOAL OF CREATING EQUITABLE ACCESS TO PARTICIPATION.ADDITIONALLY, GRANT DOLLARS WERE USED TO SUPPORT LOCAL VETERAN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE AND PROVIDE LIFE CHANGING SUPPORT TO OUR MILITARY COMMUNITY A WELL AS FOR THE SUPPORT OF SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THE SOCIAL JUSTICE SPACE THAT SERVE COMMUNITIES MOST ADVERSELY EFFECTED BY COVID-19.
SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE FOUNDATION HAS TAKEN AN ACTIVE ROLE TO EXPAND AND ENHANCE THE SEAHAWKS' ABILITY TO RAISE AND DISTRIBUTE FUNDS FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THE FOUNDATION MAKES GRANTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLIC CHARITIES THAT SERVE THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN IN THE COMMUNITY. THE FOUNDATION MAKES THESE GRANTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHARITIES QUALIFIED FOR TAX EXEMPTION UNDER IRC SECTION 501(C)(3) AND QUALIFIED AS PUBLIC CHARITIES UNDER IRC SECTIONS 509(A)(1) OR 509(A)(2). THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS CHARITIES WHOSE PURPOSE AND PROGRAMS ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION. THE FOUNDATION GENERATES FUNDS BY HOLDING SPECIAL EVENTS THAT CAPITALIZE ON THE FOUNDATION'S ASSOCIATION WITH THE SEAHAWKS, SEATTLE'S NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM. SINCE 2004, THE FOUNDATION HAS HELD "THE SPIRIT OF 12" EVENTS, WHEREBY THE FOUNDATION COLLABORATES WITH LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE YOUTH TO RAISE MONEY AT SEAHAWKS HOME GAMES TO BENEFIT LOCAL CHARITIES.
