THE MCDOWELL COUNTY FIRE COMMISSION RECEIVES AND ALLOCATES COUNTY WIDE FIRE TAX FOR EACH FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY ALSO ALLOCATE TO EACH A PORTION TO EACH DEPARTMENT BASED ON CALL AND RESPONSE DATA PROVIDED BY EACH FIRE CHIEF. THESE FUNDS ARE FOR VOUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS WHO MUST USE PERSONAL VEHICLES IN CALL RESPONSE. THEY ALSO FUND WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE AND SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE FOR ALL FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND THE MCDOWELL COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD.
