TRAINING - WINDY CITY ROLLERS (WCR) RECRUITS ATHLETES AND TRAINS THEM IN THE SKILLS REQUIRED FOR ROLLER DERBY. WCR SPONSORS A BEGINNER TEAM THAT SEEKS TO INTRODUCE NEWLY RECRUITED SKATERS TO THE SPORT. THIS CONSISTS OF A FOUR MONTH TRAINING PROGRAM. WCR PROVIDES COACHING, EQUIPMENT, AND FACILITIES TO DEVELOP ATHLETES INTO COMPETITIVE SKATERS. WCR HOLDS NINE ORGANIZED PRACTICES AND SCRIMMAGES PER WEEK FOR A PERIOD OF 2 HOURS EACH TIME FOR THE SKATERS. IN ADDITION, WCR AND ITS TEAM SPONSOR CROSS-TRAINING PROGRAMS (YOGA, STRENGTHENING AND OUTDOOR EXERCISE) TO SUPPLEMENT THE OVERALL ATHLETIC WELLBEING OF OUR ATHLETES. AS ONE OF THE FIRST ROLLER DERBY ORGANIZATIONS TO RETURN TO THE SPORT IN WAKE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WCR HOSTED MULTIPLE GAMES AND ONE THREE-DAY TOURNAMENT WHICH WAS STREAMED LIVE ONLINE FOR FANS. ADDITIONALLY, WCR TEAMS TRAVELED LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY TO PLAY AGAINST COMPETITIVE TEAMS.
