REACT DC SERVED TWENTY-FIVE FAMILIES REPRESENTING 107 PEOPLE BETWEEN ITS SEPTEMBER INCORPORATION AND DECEMBER 31. REACT DC SOURCED FROM COMMUNITY IN-KIND DONATIONS AND PURCHASED FROM MONETARY DONATIONS HOME FURNISHINGS, CELL PHONES, COMPUTERS, CAR SEATS, AND ALL OTHER NEEDS TO ESTABLISH A NEW HOME. OUR SUPPORT WAS WIDE-RANGING TO MEET EACH FAMILY'S INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. WE ASSISTED NEWCOMERS TO FIND AND SECURE AFFORDABLE HOUSING, COMPLETED BENEFITS ENROLLMENT, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD ACQUISITION, WORK PERMIT AND GREEN CARD ACQUISITION, BANK ACCOUNT SETUP, AND OTHER SOCIAL SERVICES AS THE POPULATION NEEDED. WE FIELDED HUNDREDS OF PHONE CALLS FROM NEWCOMERS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT US SYSTEMS, REFER FAMILIES TO ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY RESOURCES, AND ADVOCATE FOR RESETTLEMENT BENEFITS. THESE CALLS WERE NOT DOCUMENTED IN NUMBERS BUT RATHER HOURS; FOUR STAFF MEMBERS AND SIX VOLUNTEERS WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK TO RESPOND TO A HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN OUR BACKYARD. IN ADDITION, REACT DC PRIVATELY SPONSORED 8 FAMILIES REPRESENTING 19 PEOPLE, PROVIDING COMPLETE FUNDING AND RESETTLEMENT SUPPORT. REACT DC PROVIDED OVER $32,000 IN HOUSING SUPPORT IN ADDITION TO OTHER EXPENDITURES FOR FOOD, TECHNOLOGY, CLOTHING, TRANSPORTATION, AND FURNISHINGS, AND PLEDGED A TOTAL OF $74,000 IN HOUSING EXPENDITURES TO SUPPORT THE FAMILIES INTO 2022.
