THE EPIGENETIC CLOCK DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION ("CLOCK FOUNDATION") WAS FORMED TO ENABLE RIGOROUS MEDICAL RESEARCH ON AGING AND LONGEVITY. OUR RESEARCH MAINLY INVOLVES USE AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW AGING BIOMARKERS KNOWN AS EPIGENETIC CLOCKS FOR TESTING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LONGEVITY TREATMENTS WITHIN PRECLINICAL AND CLINICAL STUDIES.

INTERNAL RESEARCH PROGRAM: HIRING OF ADDITIONAL CLOCK FOUNDATION TEAM MEMBERS WE HIRED AN ADDITIONAL PHD BIOSTATISTICIAN, ALONG WITH ADDITIONAL PART-TIME OPERATIONAL, ADMINISTRATION, AND FINANCE STAFF. WE CONTINUED TO WORK CLOSELY WITH OUR SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD, ESPECIALLY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF RIGOROUS APPROACHES FOR EPIGENETIC CLOCK TESTING. EXCLUSIVE UCLA IP LICENSE COMPLETED AN EXCLUSIVE LICENSE TO THE HORVATH IP PORTFOLIO WAS OBTAINED IN JUNE 2021. NO ADDITIONAL SUBLICENSES OR OUTLICENSING AGREEMENTS HAVE BEEN ENTERED INTO, ALTHOUGH WE ENTERED INTO SEVERAL RESEARCH COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS WITH GROUPS THIS YEAR.
EXTERNAL RESEARCH COLLABORATIONS: MANY INTERVENTIONAL STUDIES COMPLETED ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PROMISES OF EPIGENETIC CLOCKS IS TO ACT AS A RELIABLE BIOMARKER TO EVALUATE PUTATIVE LONGEVITY TREATMENTS. WE CONDUCTED MANY NEW INTERVENTIONAL STUDIES, FOR CLINICAL TRIALS AND ALSO PRECLINICAL STUDIES, SOME WITH EXCITING EFFECTS AND OTHERS WITH MEDIOCRE OR NEGATIVE RESULTS. THIS INCLUDES STUDIES ON PLASMAPHARESIS, YOUNG PLASMA TREATMENT, STEM CELL EXOSOMES, UMBILICAL CORD PLASMA, AND A SENOLYTIC GENE THERAPY. MECHANISMS OF AGING STUDIES ONGOING ANOTHER KEY APPLICATION OF EPIGENETIC CLOCKS IS TO HELP ENABLE MECHANISTIC STUDIES, INCLUDING THE LINK OF EPIGENETIC AGING TO OTHER AGING HALLMARKS. EXCITING MECHANISTIC STUDIES THIS PAST YEAR INCLUDED ONES ON ERCC1 PROGERIA MODELS, BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS, AND PROGERIA CELL LINES.
