Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
ACTION ST. LOUIS POWER PROJECT SEEKS TO BUILD POLITICAL POWER FOR BLACK COMMUNITIES IN THE ST. LOUIS REGION BY LEADING ELECTORAL CAMPAIGNS TO MITIGATE HARM AGAINST OUR COMMUNITIES WHILE FIGHTING FOR LONG-TERM TRANSFORMATION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
VOTER EDUCATION AND MOBILIZATION - BLACK VOTERS ARE LESS LIKELY TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS AND ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE DISENFRANCHISED AND FACE HURDLES WHEN IT COMES TO ACCESSING THE BALLOT. ACTION ST. LOUIS POWER PROJECT DIRECTLY ENGAGES COMMUNITY RESIDENTS AROUND THIS ISSUE BY CREATING EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND HOSTING COMMUNITY EVENTS THAT EDUCATE RESIDENTS ON UPCOMING ELECTIONS AND CHANGES IN ELECTION LAW. WE ENGAGE IN DOOR KNOCKING, PHONE BANKING AND OTHER TACTICS TO ENSURE VOTERS UNDERSTAND CURRENT ELECTION LAWS AND HOW TO CAST A BALLOT.
COMMUNITY ADVOCACY - ACTION ST. LOUIS POWER PROJECT PRIORITIZES INCREASING MINORITY PARTICIPATION IN ONGOING POLICY CREATION ON THE LOCAL AND STATE LEVEL. BY ENGAGING RESIDENTS AROUND ISSUES SUCH AS REDISTRICTING AND BUDGETARY DECISIONS, COMMUNITIES HAVE A MORE PARTICIPATORY ROLE IN HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT THEIR COMMUNITIES.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNING - ACTION ST. LOUIS POWER PROJECT WORKS WITH COMMUNITY RESIDENTS OF HISTORICALLY NEGLECTED NEIGHBORHOODS TO CREATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES. THESE PLANS ADVOCATE FOR DIRECT INVESTMENT TO PREVENT DISPLACEMENT AND CORRECT DECADES OF DIVESTMENT TO ENSURE THE LONG-TERM HEALTH OF HISTORICALLY NEGLECTED NEIGHBORHOODS IN THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS. ACTION ST. LOUIS HOST EVENTS, COLLECTS SURVEYS AND PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENTS TO LEARN HOW TO GET INVOLVED AND SHAPE COMMUNITY PLANS.
