2020 WAS THE FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION OF THE BETHESDA COMMUNITY BASE BALL CLUB, INC. DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, THE YEAR WAS SPENT PLANNING FOR A BASEBALL SEASON IN 2021. CONTRIBUTIONS WERE SOLICITED FROM INDIVIDUALS SUPPORTIVE OF LOCAL SUMMER BASEBALL PLAYED BY COLLEGE STUDENT ATHLETES AT A HIGH LEVEL OF SKILLS. COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS ALSO SUPPORTED YOUTH SKILLS CAMPS. WHILE THERE HAD BEEN A PRIOR ORGANIZATION PERFORMING SOME OF THESE ACTIVITIES, THE PANDEMIC INTERRUPTED LOCAL SPORTS ACTIVITIES. THUS BETHESDA COMMUNITY BASE BALL CLUB, INC. HAD TO INITIATE ITS EFFORTS DURING THIS PERIOD OF INTERRUPTION. IN THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, PLANS WERE MADE TO ERECT A SIZABLE SCULPTURE AT MONTGOMERY COUNTY'S SHIRLEY POVICH FIELD TO HONOR THE FORMER COUNTY RESIDENTS SHIRLEY POVICH AND WALTER JOHNSON FOR WHOM THE FIELD AND THE SUMMER TEAM, RESPECTIVELY, ARE NAMED. ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS WERE SOUGHT TO CREATE AND ERECT THE SCULPTURE.
