NEW MEXICO WINE PRODUCED MULTIPLE EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN 2021 INCLUDING A THREE-DAY WINE EDUCATION CONFERENCE IN ALBUQUERQUE IN FEBRUARY WITH OVER 100 ATTENDEES. THE PROGRAM BROUGHT IN EXPERT SPEAKERS TO HOST WORKSHOPS AND PRESENT DATA ON GRAPE RESEARCH AND WINEMAKING. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PRODUCED "GRAPE DAY", A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSIONS WITH 40 IN ATTENDANCE. GRAPE DAY COVERED A VARIETY OF NEW MEXICO VITICULTURE PRACTICES, GRAPE GENETICS, AND ENOLOGICAL RESEARCH.
NEW MEXICO WINE'S STAFF AUTHORED AND SUBMITTED TWO LARGER GRANTS, AND BOTH WERE AWARDED. THE GRANT FUNDING WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT THE WINE AND GRAPE INDUSTRY IN 2022 AND BEYOND.
THE RETURN OF OUTDOOR PUBLIC EVENTS IN 2021 ALLOWED NEW MEXICO WINE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING BACK THE HARVEST WINE FESTIVAL, WHICH IS ONE OF THE LARGEST CONSUMER WINE EVENTS IN THE SOUTHWEST AND ONE OF THE KEY WAYS NEW MEXICO WINERIES CAN SAMPLE AND SELL THEIR PRODUCTS DIRECTLY TO CONSUMERS. THE ANNUAL EVENT ALSO FEATURES ENGAGING ACTIVITIES LIKE FOOD AND WINE PAIRING, GRAPE STOMP, AND WINE EDUCATION.
