Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

SHARE MY MEALS FIGHTS BOTH FOOD INSECURITY AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF FOOD WASTE BY RECOVERING AND DELIVERING HEALTHY MEALS TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES. AS MANY LOCAL CORPORATIONS, UNIVERSITIES AND SCHOOLS, FOOD SERVICE COMPANIES AND RESTAURANTS HAVE UNSERVED EXCESS MEALS AT THE END OF THE DAY, SHARE MY MEALS LEVERAGES THESE SURPLUSES BY DISTRIBUTING THEM TO FOOD INSECURE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. SHARE MY MEALS ALSO PURCHASES MEALS FROM LOCAL RESTAURANTS THROUGH ITS COVID 19 PROGRAM AND DISTRIBUTES THEM FOR FREE TO LOCAL FOOD INSECURE FAMILIES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SHARE MY MEALS MEAL RECOVERY PROGRAM: DISTRIBUTION OF MEALS DONATED FROM LOCAL UNIVERSITIES, CORPORATIONS, SCHOOLS AND RESTAURANTS. THE MEAL RECOVERY PROGRAM IS AN INNOVATIVE AND SELF-SUSTAINABLE MEALS RECOVERY PROCESS, APPROVED BY THE LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, THAT RESCUES SURPLUS READY-TO-EAT MEALS FROM FOOD PROVIDERS AND DELIVERS THEM TO FAMILIES IN NEED IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES. SHARE MY MEALS PARTNERS WITH LARGE FOOD SERVICE PROVIDERS AND CATERERS WORKING FOR CORPORATIONS AND UNIVERSITIES TO RECOVER THEIR UNTAPPED SURPLUS MEALS AND DELIVER THEM DIRECTLY TO THE HOME OF THOSE IN NEED OR TO COMMUNITY PARTNERS ALSO SERVING THE LOCAL FOOD INSECURE POPULATION.

SHARE MY MEALS BUFFER PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM WAS LAUNCHED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL RESTAURANTS THAT AGREED TO PREPARE AND SELL MEALS AT COST TO THE ORGANIZATION FOR DISTRIBUTION TO FOOD INSECURE FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY. IN 2021 AND 2022, THIS INITIATIVE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED THANKS IN PARTICULAR TO THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THE NJEDA'S SUSTAIN AND SERVE NJ PROGRAM. THE MEALS WERE NO LONGER BOUGHT AT COST, ALLOWING THE PARTICIPATING RESTAURANTS TO ALSO BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM. 26,887 MEALS WERE PURCHASED UNDER THIS PROGRAM IN 2022.
