KOWAK HOSPITAL SUPPORT: FOK ASSISTS KOWAK HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF TO IDENTIFY EQUIPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT OR CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FACILITIES. THIS PROGRAM ALSO ADMINISTERS MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO PURCHASE AND DISTRIBUTE NOURISHMENT SUPPLEMENTS INCLUDING MILK AND CEREAL TO INFANTS AND CHILDREN EXPOSED TO HIV OR WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AIDS THROUGH THE HOSPITAL'S REGIONAL HIV AIDS OUTPATIENT CLINIC.
EDUCATION ASSISTANCE: FRIENDS OF KOWAK FOK WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SEVERAL PRIVATE AS WELL AS PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN NORTHWEST TANZANIA TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT VOLUNTEER TIME AND COMMUNICATION SO THE SCHOOLS CAN OFFER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY TO INDIGENT STUDENTS. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AND OTHER COMMUNITY LEADERS IDENTIFY STUDENTS AND ASSESS FINANCIAL NEED. FOK MANAGERS AND VOLUNTEERS HAVE SUBSTANTIAL INVOLVEMENT IN ADMINISTERING THE FINANCIAL AID MONITORING STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND MENTORING AND MAINTAINING CONTINUING COMMUNICATION WITH THE STUDENTS.
KOWAK GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE AND EQUIPMENT: FOK IS PARTNERING WITH ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF AT THIS GIRLS' BOARDING SCHOOL TO IMPROVE HYGIENE THROUGH DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF WASH SHOWER AND TOILET FACILITIES AS WELL AS ASSESMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF WATER SUPPLY FOR SUCH PURPOSES.
SCHOOL TEXTBOOK DISTRIBUTION: FOK VOLUNTEERS AND BOARD MEMBERS PARTNERED WITH ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF AT THREE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN THE VILLAGE OF KOWAK TANZANIA TO PURCHASE AND DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF TEXTBOOKS TO SELECT GRADES OF STUDENTS WHERE THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF FUNDS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF BOOKS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF A GROWING STUDENT POPULATION.
